On October 1, Mr. Dang Van Duong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Kim Ngan Commune, Quang Tri Province - confirmed that the local government had received many complaints from teachers of Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, related to Ms. Do Thi Hong Hue - Vice Principal of this school, after 40 students were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning.

A series of petitions with unusual content

According to Mr. Duong, in many complaints, there are both anonymous and official ones signed by teachers in the school and sent to the People's Committee of Kim Ngan commune. The authorities are classifying the complaints for processing. Complaints under the commune's authority will be handled by the commune, complaints under the school's authority will be transferred to the school, and those related to violations of the law will be transferred to the police for handling.

"This afternoon, the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri will directly work with the commune government, school principals, and teachers to grasp the situation and have a solution to stabilize the psychology of parents and students," said Mr. Duong.

Meanwhile, a source from the Lao Dong Newspaper said that many teachers in the school have signed up to the denunciations, complaints and urgent petitions. The content revolves around the fact that Mr. Do Van My - Principal, Secretary of the school's Party cell and Ms. Do Thi Hong Hue - Deputy Secretary of the Party cell, Vice Principal - are accused of showing signs of "nepotism" in their work, lack of transparency in managing the boarding kitchen, violating office culture, appropriating assets and finances of union members...

It is known that Mr. Do Van My and Ms. Do Thi Hong Hue are cousins. Public opinion believes that this family relationship is the reason why the management and operation of the school have recently revealed many shortcomings, especially after the mass poisoning incident that hospitalized 40 students.

"Doing wrong is still rewarded"

Many teachers reported that during her work, Ms. Hue repeatedly gave advice that violated regulations and put pressure on her colleagues. Notably, despite being under Party discipline (school year 2023-2024), Ms. Hue was still classified by Mr. Do Van My as "fulfilling her duties well" and submitted to her superiors for approval.

40 students of Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities - after treatment, have been discharged from the hospital, with basically stable health.

By the 2024-2025 school year, Ms. Hue continued to be classified as "excellent in completing tasks" in the last 6 months of the year, thereby receiving more than 7 million VND in bonus and the title of "Basic Emulation Fighter". Many teachers said that this process was completely not approved by the school's Emulation and Reward Council.

What made the teachers most upset, according to the complaint, was that Mr. My gave all the management of the boarding kitchen to Ms. Hue. From the food warehousing, quality control, and processing stages, all were decided by Ms. Hue, without a food inspection team, nor did she allow other teachers to participate in supervision.

Many teachers and parents believe that this laxity and lack of transparency led to the serious incident that saw 40 students hospitalized after a lunch break. After treatment, the 40 students were discharged from the hospital and their health condition has stabilized.

After the incident, many parents were confused and did not dare to send their children back to school. The local government had to mobilize departments, branches, mass organizations, police, border guards, village elders and village chiefs to visit each family to propagate and encourage parents to send their children to school so that their studies would not be interrupted.

"The locality will coordinate with the Department of Education and Training to handle the case. The immediate task is for the government to focus on mobilizing parents to bring their children back to class so that their studies are not interrupted or affected. As for the collective and individuals in the school, we will continue to focus on verifying petitions in a serious, objective, transparent manner and clarifying the rights and wrongs of each individual and collective to have a direction for handling" - Mr. Dang Van Duong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Kim Ngan commune, said.
