For Vietnamese sports, the past week has been a time of good news. The U20 women's football team had convincing victories at the 2025 AFF U20 Women's Football Championship, thereby winning a ticket to the AFC U20 Women's Football Championship Finals in 2026.

At the 2025 National Athletics Championship, the speed running event recorded new champions, showing a new breeze in this most notable competition. In Ninh Binh, on the evening of Sunday, August 10, the national women's volleyball team defeated the Thai team with a score of 3-2, winning the SEA V.League championship for the first time. Although there are still limitations in terms of tactics and defense, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team's defeat of a " world-class " strong team like Thailand helps the team feel more confident about their ability to conquer the gold medal in volleyball at the 33rd SEA Games taking place later this year.

However, for many, the journey of the Vietnamese women's football team at the 2025 AFF Women's Championship has a special meaning. This is not only an important tournament but also a valuable opportunity for coach Mai Duc Chung's students to prepare thoroughly for the 33rd SEA Games taking place later this year. After successively defeating the Cambodian women's team 6-0 and Indonesia 7-0, the Vietnamese women's team won 1-0 against the top team in Southeast Asia, Thailand, thereby closing the group stage with 3 wins, scoring 14 goals and keeping a clean sheet.

Up until the semi-final, the most interesting thing for coach Mai Duc Chung's team was the ability to operate a variety of tactics against different opponents. In the match against Thailand, despite not playing with the strongest lineup - when midfielder Duong Thi Van was absent due to injury, and Van Su and Thanh Nha did not play from the start - the Vietnamese players still showed superiority in both class and experience. After being led 1-0 by Thu Thao's goal, a young Thai team that had scored 14 goals in the previous two matches could not make a difference against a cohesive Vietnamese team that dominated the midfield and played tightly in defense under the command of center-back Chuong Thi Kieu.

The Vietnamese women's football team is facing a generational transition when 8/11 of the starting players in the match against Thailand are over 30 years old. In that context, the excellent tactical ability of coach Mai Duc Chung and his team as well as the experience of the players are the most important factors helping the Vietnamese women's football team confidently head towards the 33rd SEA Games.
