Protecting the Party's ideological foundation: Persistent, resolute, and methodical

+ Sir, looking back on the past 99 years, the Party spirit is the characteristic, the red thread running through the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press. In that journey, what role has the People's Army Newspaper played and is playing in the task of protecting the Party's guidelines, protecting the Party and serving the People?

- It must be said very clearly that the People's Army Newspaper is a Party newspaper in the armed forces, not a newspaper that only writes about the army and combat training. The position, function and role of the Newspaper are completely different from the newspapers of the sectors and localities in the country because this is the leading political -military newspaper of the Party, the State and the entire political system.

Therefore, the political task, the regular task is to propagate the two major tasks, the two strategies of building and defending the Fatherland, in which special importance is attached to propaganda on Party building. From the perspective of Party building, we have propaganda information, analysis, dissection of issues foreducation and orientation, encouragement, welcome and reward, policy criticism and especially protecting the Party's ideological foundation...

+ How has the People's Army Newspaper specifically implemented the work of protecting the ideological foundation that you just emphasized in recent times, sir?

- Since its inception, the People's Army Newspaper has paid great attention to and done very well this work. Because this is the most progressive ideology of the era, as President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: "Nowadays there are many doctrines and many ideologies, but the most genuine, most certain, and most revolutionary ideology is Leninism" . The mission of press units such as the People's Army Newspaper is to constantly pay attention to protecting the line, which is also protecting the Party and protecting ourselves.

Especially in recent years, we have carried out the motto: Persistent, resolute, systematic and have effective protection methods. All content on all publications of the newspaper thoroughly grasps the viewpoints, guidelines and ideologies of the Party. But it focuses on prominent pages and columns, for example, on the front page of the printed newspaper on Monday, it is in the section "defeating the strategy of "peaceful evolution", on Thursday it is "preventing and combating "self-evolution", "self-transformation". On the electronic newspaper, in addition to posting that information, there are other sections such as "Straight Angle" or "Newsletter 35".

In addition, since 2021, we have organized the Contest "Protecting the Party's Ideological Foundation in the New Situation" - becoming the first unit among agencies and units nationwide to organize on this topic. After the Newspaper organized, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and the Central Propaganda Department organized the "Political Writing Contest on Protecting the Party's Ideological Foundation". The two contests coincided in that they were organized almost at the same time, each agency had its own direction, its own topic, its own method, its own target, but they shared the same purpose, creating a comprehensive, solid, and secure position to protect the Party's ideological foundation.

Up to now, the contest of the People's Army Newspaper has been launched for the 4th time, attracting a large number of participants and extremely good quality. According to the summary of the Organizing Committee, the contest has several outstanding points: it was launched earliest; the most participants have academic titles and degrees; the most clear division of awards, including the system of central press awards, local press awards and magazine awards.

Only by doing good for the people can we hope to do good for the Party.

+ Sir, the Party spirit must permeate every direction, every directive and every journalistic work. But to do this task well requires great determination, it cannot be done in a day or two. In addition, writing about this field is often difficult, not easy to convince, Editor-in-Chief?

- We have determined that this is an unchanging requirement, and at the same time, it is also the vitality of the newspaper. If we do this well, the newspaper will live healthily, sustainably, and have many readers. If we do not do a good job of protecting the Party, and if we have poor Party character, we will have few readers because that is the function, mission, and identity of the newspaper.

There is one thing that the Editorial Board as well as the Editor-in-Chief are concerned about and must strive for constantly, which is to maintain the unified, dialectical relationship between the Party's character and the People's character. Because our Party has no other purpose than to bring happiness to the People, the Party's interests are closely linked to and coincide with the interests of the People and the nation. To have a profound People's character is a daily, hourly, unceasing struggle of ours. Only by doing well in the People's character can we hope to do well in the Party's character, that is, only then will the press's directional information be convincing, enter people's hearts, and be favored by the People. That is the essence of the spirit of serving the Fatherland and serving the People that our press is wholeheartedly striving for.

Comprehensive Party character is not only about policies, resolutions, great things, "high hats and long gowns", but also the breath of life, not only about political commentary, but also about reflection, investigative reports, good people, good deeds... That is, Party character and People character must blend together, like two in one.

+ It is clear that the current situation is facing many challenges as hostile forces are using increasingly sophisticated tactics on all platforms... This context is both a challenge and an opportunity for the Party newspaper in the armed forces to affirm its role, Mr. Editor-in-Chief?

- I think that the task of protecting the Party's ideological foundation, including refuting the current hostile and erroneous arguments, is an unequal battle because we have a much greater advantage and a much stronger force. But a philosopher said something like this: we are not afraid of a few talkative people stealing the stage, but we are afraid of the silence of the majority of the public...

The fact that we have not yet created a strong public forum is the scary thing. The number of online opponents may increase, but how can they compare to millions of people, including tens of thousands of journalists? How can a few enemy radio stations compare to thousands of our press agencies? In this war, we have an almost absolute advantage. The problem is that we must unite, the press must speak up and fight together.

+ From a certain perspective, in the task of protecting the Party's ideological foundation, there are indeed many things that are difficult to say when criticizing policies, don't you think?

- To fight and protect the Party, we must speak frankly and responsibly. The press must research to propagate in the right direction, but the press also has the right to criticize and contribute ideas to the Party in its role as a bridge.

For example, the People's Army Newspaper won the A prize of the Golden Hammer and Sickle Award this year, with a series of works "Why Resolutions are good, but their implementation is difficult in every way". The work was highly appreciated, in which the group of authors frankly pointed out that, currently, there are too many Resolutions, the Resolutions are written too long, very difficult to read and difficult to implement. Some people think that touching the Resolution is taboo, but the People's Army Newspaper dared to speak up with the ultimate goal of organizing the implementation of the Resolution into life, into the masses. That is also proof of the harmony of the Party's character with the People's character that we have been striving to do well.
