
74 years ago, Jo Ngay commune was established. From October 1950 to July 1975, the commune was named Jo Ngay; in November 1975, the Quang Nam - Da Nang Provincial Party Committee decided to dissolve Jo Ngay commune and arrange it into Song Kon commune, Hien district. On August 16, 1999, Jo Ngay commune was re-established according to Decree No. 71/ND-CP of the Government.
The commune has a natural area of 5,574 hectares, with 692 households/2,681 people, of which more than 75% are farmers. In 1999, the whole commune had only 1 school with bamboo walls and 2 classrooms (including 5 teachers and 50 students), and no medical station. Up to now, the commune has 10 schools with 29 classrooms (nearly 700 students and 44 teachers); the medical station has 9 beds and meets national standards.
The total grain output of the commune currently reaches 1,070 tons, an increase of 25 times compared to 1999; the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production reaches more than 23.1 billion VND, an increase of 15 times compared to 1999. The average income per capita is estimated at 33 million VND/year, an increase of 15 times compared to 25 years ago.
After 25 years of re-establishing the commune, backward customs and superstitions have been pushed back. In 1999, the whole commune had no cultural households, but by the end of 2023, the rate of households achieving cultural families was 96.99%. Attention has been paid to the work of caring for policy beneficiaries, meritorious people, and supporting the elimination of temporary houses.
Jo Ngay commune is also a place where the cultures of four ethnic groups living together converge and exchange, creating a diverse, rich and unique culture.
On this occasion, the People's Committee of Jo Ngay commune awarded certificates of merit to 14 collectives and 31 individuals with outstanding achievements contributing to the local socio -economic development over 25 years of re-establishment.
