TPO – On the morning of January 4, at Hong Bang International University, the Southern region’s 2024 Valedictorian Scholarship Award Ceremony took place. The program has been organized annually by the Vietnam Young Talent Support Fund and Tien Phong newspaper since 2016.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, journalist Phung Cong Suong - Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper, Director of the Vietnam Young Talent Support Fund - shared: "The Valedictorian Step Up Program always stands side by side with the students, supporting them both materially and spiritually, so that they are confident in their journey to conquer knowledge, becoming useful citizens for society. The students sitting here today, despite facing seemingly insurmountable difficulties, have turned that adversity into motivation, turning their dreams into torches to light up their educational journey." |
This year, the organizing committee received more than 350 student applications for the program. Most of the applications were recommended by universities and colleges across the country. After a rigorous screening process, the organizing committee selected 30 students from the North and 65 students from the South to receive scholarships. |
Associate Professor, Dr. Le Khac Cuong – Vice President of Hong Bang International University – thanked Tien Phong Newspaper for allowing the school to accompany the program with profound humanistic meaning. |
Over the past 9 years, the Valedictorian Step Up program has helped nearly 900 students across the country achieve excellent results in the university entrance exam, with nearly 9 billion VND in cash and useful items worth billions of VND. |
As a boy with cleft lip and cleft palate, who was abandoned at the foot of a bridge when he was still a newborn, Le Van Loc shared: “The path I have chosen is the path of study. My future is a very long time ahead, so I have to study hard to succeed and have the opportunity to help disadvantaged children who do not have the conditions to go to school.” |
Tran Ngoc Anh Thy, a first-year student of the Faculty of Business Administration at Thu Dau Mot University ( Binh Duong ), has a special situation when her father passed away due to a serious illness when Thy was only 17 months old. Thy shared that the way to overcome the difficult situation when she only had her mother was to try to study hard from a young age. Always thinking of her mother, she tried to study harder to please her. |
The students' sharing brought silence to the hall. Many students were in tears. |
“Before I could study, my mother had to work hard and make many sacrifices. Now that I am 18 years old, although I have not done anything for my mother, I always promise myself to always try my best to strive to rise up, have the opportunity to repay my mother and contribute to building my homeland and country to become more and more beautiful,” shared the new valedictorian Phan Thai Ty, majoring in Chemical Engineering Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry. |
Participating in the exchange program, Giang Van Dang, a H'Mong ethnic person currently studying at the Faculty of Music Composition (Hue Academy of Music), expressed his desire to use music to preserve the traditional beauty of the nation and introduce the beauty of Vietnam to friends around the world. |
Journalist Phung Cong Suong awarded scholarships to students. |

In order to support students in their studies, the Organizing Committee gave students a valuable gift, which was a laptop. However, because the number was limited, only 9 computers, to ensure fairness and objectivity, the Organizing Committee conducted a lottery. |
The performances taking place throughout the Valedictorian Steps program give students a warm and close feeling. |
“On behalf of the program’s organizing committee, we would like to express our deep gratitude to you. Your cooperation and efforts are practical contributions, helping poor students overcome difficulties and realize their dreams. We hope that thanks to your concern and sharing, the Valedictorian Stepping Program will continue to spread humanistic values, bringing opportunities and hope to more students in the coming years.
