DTO – On February 15, information from the Dong Thap Statistics Office said that agricultural production in January 2024 mainly focused on planting the 2023-2024 Winter-Spring crop. Accordingly, as of January 17, 2024, the whole province had planted 186,750 hectares of the 2023-2024 Winter-Spring crop (reaching 98.81% of the plan), most of the Winter-Spring rice area is in the seedling - ripening stage. The area of ​​other short-term crops and industrial crops in the 2023-2024 Winter-Spring crop has been planted at 10,642 hectares. The main crops planted include: corn 1,321 hectares; sweet potatoes 203 hectares; vegetables of all kinds 5,564 hectares.

The 2023 - 2024 Winter-Spring rice crop area in Cao Lanh district is developing well.

Regarding the disease situation, the area infected with brown planthoppers on rice is 850ha, mainly at the tillering - panicle initiation stage, of which the average infected area is 50ha and the remaining area is lightly infected with a density of 1,500 - 3,000 insects/m2. The area infected with onion mosquitoes is 1,381ha, of which the average infected area is 320ha, and the remaining area is lightly infected on rice at the tillering - panicle initiation stage with a disease rate of 20 - 40%. Pests and diseases on crops appear to cause widespread damage at a mild level, except for the fall armyworm that damages corn, no new infected areas have been detected.
