Technology YouTube channel PhoneBuff has just made a video comparing the speed and processing performance of iPhone Pro Max variants, from iPhone 12 to iPhone 17, to check how the speed of iPhone Pro Max versions has changed every year.

The iPhone Pro Max models all get yearly processor upgrades (Image cut from clip).
Among the products compared, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, 13 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max all have 6GB of RAM, only the processor chip is upgraded.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max duo are upgraded to 8GB RAM and the iPhone 17 Pro Max has the largest RAM, 12GB. Equipping large RAM helps iPhone in particular and smartphones in general handle multitasking tasks faster and smoother.
Not only superior in RAM capacity, iPhone 17 Pro Max is also equipped with A19 Pro chip, which is considered Apple's most powerful mobile chip ever.
To conduct its test, PhoneBuff used a robotic arm to launch each app on each iPhone Pro Max one at a time. After launching an app, the robotic arm automatically returned to the home screen and continued to launch another app.
PhoneBuff 's robotic arm continues this process until it has activated 16 different applications, including social networking, word processing, gaming, graphics processing, etc.
After running all 16 of these applications, the robotic arm will start to activate the previously launched applications to test the multitasking speed on each product.
There were times when the iPhone 13 Pro Max caught up with the iPhone 17 Pro Max's processing speed and outperformed even newer versions. But the final results still showed that the iPhone 17 Pro Max was completely superior to its "seniors" in processing speed, taking only 4 minutes 40.63 seconds to complete the test.
How has the speed of the iPhone Pro Max versions changed over the years? (Video: PhoneBuff).
Surprisingly, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max outperformed the iPhone 16 Pro Max, achieving times of 6 minutes 18 seconds and 6 minutes 20.95 seconds, respectively; while the iPhone 16 Pro Max took 6 minutes 22.61 seconds to complete the test.
This result shows that the iPhone 13 Pro Max is still delivering impressive performance and processing speed, even though the product was released in 2021.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max ranked 5th in PhoneBuff 's test, taking 6 minutes and 27.62 seconds to complete. Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 12 Pro Max ranked last in this test, with a score of 6 minutes and 53.47 seconds.
Of course, PhoneBuff 's test is for reference only, because the processing speed on smartphone models also depends on the actual usage of the user.
