Restoration and restoration of the Hai Thuong Lan Ong Tomb and Monument

VHO - The project to restore and embellish the Hai Thuong Lan Ong Tomb and Monument (Huong Son, Ha Tinh) has a total investment of more than 13.2 billion VND, showing deep gratitude to the great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac, contributing to educating the tradition of "remembering the source of drinking water" and "remembering the person who planted the tree when eating the fruit".

The Department of Culture and Information of Huong Son district ( Ha Tinh ) said that the People's Committee of Huong Son district has just started the project to restore and embellish the tomb and monument of Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac.

This is a project with a total investment of more than 13.2 billion VND from the Ha Tinh provincial budget, with the People's Committee of Huong Son district as the investor.

The relic complex of the great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac was ranked as a national historical and cultural relic in 1990.

The project is undertaken by a joint venture of Ha Tinh Cultural Construction Consulting and Construction Company Limited - Tai Nguyen Company Limited - Thanh Cong Construction Development Investment and Design Consulting Company Limited (Ha Tinh City).

The construction project shows deep gratitude to the great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac, contributing to educating the nation's beautiful tradition of "remembering the source of water when drinking" and "remembering the person who planted the tree when eating the fruit".

The monument of the great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac was built on the top of Minh Tu mountain.

At the same time, ensure infrastructure towards organizing activities to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac, contributing to promoting the development of spiritual cultural tourism in the area.

According to schedule, the project will be completed after 6 months of construction. The main items of the project include: Repairing the reception house, renovating the courtyard in front of the tomb, expanding the parking lot and the relic yard.

The complex of historical and cultural relics of the great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac was ranked as a national historical and cultural relic in 1990, including the tomb and monument in Son Trung commune; the church area in Bao Thuong village, Quang Diem commune (Huong Son district).

The cemetery currently has a yard, garden, and stone tomb with a total area of ^{​​12,000m2} ; a reception area with a total area of ^{​​13,500m2} . The road system from the cemetery to the monument has an area of ​​nearly ^6,000m2 , including 220 steps. The system of reliefs, monuments, and monument yard has a total area of ^{​​3,500m2} .

Commencement of restoration of the tomb and monument of Hai Thuong Lan Ong

Ha Tinh has built a plan to organize a ceremony to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of the Great Physician and receive the UNESCO certificate of honor for Hai Thuong Lan Ong. Ha Tinh province has also prepared a dossier to propose to the Prime Minister to rank the tomb and memorial site of Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac as a special national monument.

Famous physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac was born on November 12, 1724 in Lieu Xa village, Duong Hao district (now Yen My district, Hung Yen province). At the age of 26, he left his official career to return to his maternal home to take care of his elderly mother in Bau Thuong village, Tinh Diem commune, now Quang Diem commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province.

After living in seclusion, he diligently searched, researched, cultivated native medicinal plants, wrote poems, taught, wrote books, and treated people. After several decades of dedication to his profession, he systematized the essence of Eastern medicine theory along with special innovations through the application of classical theory to Vietnamese conditions, summarizing the nation's traditional medicine.

He left behind many great works such as: Hai Thuong Y Tong Tam Linh, consisting of 28 volumes and 66 books, distilling the essence of traditional medicine, which is considered the most outstanding medical work in medieval Vietnam, and the books "Linh Nam Ban Thao" and "Thuong Kinh Ky Su" which not only have medical value but also literary, historical and philosophical value.

Le Huu Trac was not only a great medical scientist but also an excellent poet, writer, progressive thinker, with a profound humanitarian spirit. He died in 1791, leaving behind a shining example of medical ethics, medical theory, and medical techniques. His tomb is located at the foot of Minh Tu mountain, next to Ngan Pho river. After his death, he was honored by the people and the medical community of the whole country as the "Medical Saint of Vietnam".

At the 42nd session of the General Assembly of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) held on November 21, 2023, a resolution was passed approving the list of "Cultural celebrities and historical events for the 2024-2025 school year", including the dossier commemorating the 300th anniversary of the birth of famous physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac in 2024.
