Slope collapse at Thuong Thoi Tien embankment, Dong Thap

On October 17, the People's Committee of Thuong Phuoc commune, Dong Thap province, said that the authorities had just blockaded the landslide area of ​​Thuong Thoi Tien embankment, prohibiting all road and waterway vehicles from approaching the landslide area.

Previously, on the evening of October 16, a serious landslide occurred in the Thuong Thoi Tien embankment area of ​​Thuong Phuoc commune, causing the entire 58m long embankment slope to collapse, the entire 34m long sidewalk to collapse, and the embankment to go about 1m deep into the roadway.

Faced with the serious and complicated situation of landslides, local authorities have blocked off the entire landslide area, strictly prohibiting road and waterway vehicles from accessing, and maintained two teams on duty to regulate traffic and monitor landslides 24/7 to ensure safety.

Faced with the complicated weather situation and upstream flood situation combined with high tides, the People's Committee of Thuong Phuoc commune proposed the People's Committee of Dong Thap province to consider and direct relevant departments and branches to promptly deploy remedial construction measures to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

From August 2025 to present, the Thuong Thoi Tien embankment area has had 5 landslides and subsidence sections with a total length of more than 400m.

Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Tran Tri Quang has decided to declare an emergency situation of landslide on the Tien River bank at this location.

Thuong Thoi Tien Embankment belongs to the Project "Management and mitigation of drought and flood risks in the Greater Mekong Subregion", with a total length of more than 4km, invested hundreds of billions of VND and completed in 2019.
