Despite heavy losses in manpower and equipment, Kiev forces have failed to make any significant gains on the ground since launching their spring counteroffensive in the Zaporozhye direction and south of Donetsk on June 4.
Videos released on social media on June 15 provided further evidence of the heavy losses suffered by Kiev forces during the attack on Zaporozhye on June 8-9.
Videos show several US-made Bradley infantry vehicles being destroyed by artillery, while another shows a Leopard 2 main battle tank being “blown away” off the road by an anti-tank mine.
In the south of Donetsk, Kiev forces were unable to cross the line. Russian troops maintained high ground in this direction and blocked the advance of Ukrainian forces in the towns of Velikaya Novoselovka, Vremensky, Makarovkais, Blagodatnoe, Urozhainoe and Storojevoe.
Among the newly released videos is a Ukrainian T-80 being destroyed by a Lancet suicide drone, as well as several armored vehicles being hit by artillery fire on other fronts.
Meanwhile, videos released by the Russian Defense Ministry show the activities of Russian attack helicopters, artillery and drones in both the Zaporozhye direction and south of Donetsk.
Previously, on June 10 and 11, many videos of destroyed Ukrainian equipment were also made public.
Videos released by SF show two Ukrainian main battle tanks destroyed, most likely T-64s or T-72s. An American-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, an M777, towing a 155mm howitzer, and two MaxxPro anti-ambush armored vehicles were also destroyed by the Russian army.
One of the tanks was destroyed by a suicide drone. The other appeared to have been hit by an anti-tank missile. Meanwhile, the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle was pursued by a Russian Ka-52 attack helicopter, and the M777 and MaxxpPros were knocked out by artillery fire.
All of the above losses occurred in the Zaporozhye region.
Ukraine has also escalated its attacks on the Crimean peninsula. Early on June 15, a drone attack targeted the Crimean peninsula. The regional governor, Sergey Aksyonov, said that a total of nine drones were shot down in Crimea.
Six drones were shot down while three others were disabled by electronic warfare, Aksyonov said, adding that one drone “exploded” in the village of Dokuchayevo, located in the center of the peninsula.
“There are no casualties. Windows in some houses were broken,” Aksyonov wrote on his Telegram channel, calling on residents to remain calm.
Ukraine is likely to continue its counter-offensive, despite heavy losses and setbacks. Larger attacks are likely in the coming days or weeks as Kiev looks to breach Russia’s defenses.
According to SF, Ukraine's main target appears to be the city of Melitopol, which lies in the middle of the land route connecting Crimea with other regions of Russia.
