A new category this year is the Inclusion Award co-initiated by the Goethe Institute Hanoi and Hanoi Grapevine, which was awarded to artist Tran Thao Mien and artist Linh Valerie Pham.

Linh Valerie Pham founded Mat Tran Ensemble with a focus on inclusion and accessibility in the arts. In 2022, she co-directed Eye See Ai (ESA), a collaborative research project with neurodivergent artists from Vietnam and Wales.

As for Tran Thao Mien, she is an artist working in the Sign Chorus project (2022) - an installation work in collaboration with teachers and students at the Deaf Education and Support Center in Central Vietnam, performed by artists Moi Tran, Tran Thao Mien, Mai Huyen Chi & Xuan Ha.

The recipients of the Inclusive Arts Award will be financially supported to explore new approaches to inclusive artistic practice in an initiative to be completed in 2024. The results of this initiative will be presented at the Goethe-Institut.

In 2024, the Hanoi Grapevine team wants to focus on and promote the flexible perspectives and standards of pioneering organizers, individuals in investing in research and private art collection, with independent and aesthetic perspectives, as well as going beyond the pressured prejudices of the contemporary context.

Therefore, this year's advisory board is diverse, including art researcher/curator Do Tuong Linh, collector/art organization leader Ariel Pham, and international researcher/collector Sophie Huang.

In particular, from May 17-30, following the success of previous seasons, the annual exhibition The Grapevine Selection - Grapevine Selection 2024 will open to introduce more than 20 works with diverse forms of expression from 9 artists at Art30 Gallery, 30 Quang Trung, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi.

With strict selection criteria from the Art Advisory Council, focusing on artists and works with representative values, setting milestones for the future of long-term art storage and collection, the exhibition brings the latest works, works that leave a strong impression with the unique artistic style of the artists: Huy Phan, Le Thua Tien, Lam Na, Mai Huyen Chi, Ngo Dinh Bao Chau, Nguyen Duy Manh, Nguyen Duc Tin, Nguyen Thi Diep and Thuy Anh Dang.

The Grapevine Selection promises to bring viewers a universal yet rich and multifaceted view of Vietnamese contemporary art.

This is also an activity that contributes to building a foundation for the creative industry and the domestic art market. Choosing a space to enhance the experience of contemporary works also partly creates a dialogue between history and modernity, tradition and innovation.

Hanoi Grapevine, founded in 2007, is an independent, not-for-profit online platform that aims to support the Vietnamese arts scene by connecting artists, art spaces and high-quality art event organizers with audiences. Hanoi Grapevine has been recognized by the British Council in Vietnam as a pioneering online creative space in Vietnam.

Since 2019, Hanoi Grapevine's Finest has become an annual event honoring contemporary art activities in Vietnam initiated by Hanoi Grapevine and the PAN Active Audience Network.

The event aims to honor individuals, organizations, projects, and creative arts activities that have been striving to create a diverse, open, and pioneering cultural and artistic environment, contributing to raising awareness and empathy for culture and art, helping individuals connect with themselves and the community.

The Grapevine Selection exhibition was initiated by founder - Canadian artist Brian Ring in 2013. The Grapevine Selection exhibition series is an initiative within the plan to carry out the mission that Hanoi Grapevine set out to promote Vietnamese art and culture both at home and abroad.
