General Secretary: Take care to build a strong and comprehensive armed force of Military Region 1

On the afternoon of October 16, in Thai Nguyen province, the Party Committee and Command of Military Region 1, the Ministry of National Defense solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Armed Forces of Military Region 1 (October 16, 1945 - October 16, 2025) and receive the Ho Chi Minh Medal.

Building the tradition of "Loyalty, Pioneering, Solidarity, Victory"

Delivering the commemorative speech, Major General Truong Manh Dung, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Commander of Military Region 1, said that exactly 80 years ago, on October 16, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh signed the Decree establishing 12 military zones across the country, including Military Region 1, and since then, October 16 every year has become the Traditional Day of the Armed Forces of Military Region 1.

During the revolutionary process and in each specific historical period and stage, to meet the requirements of the mission, Viet Bac - Military Region 1 has had its administrative boundaries adjusted many times, with different names such as War Zone 1, Inter-zone 1, Inter-zone Viet Bac, Military Region Viet Bac and Military Region 1 until today.

Born from the revolutionary struggle movement of the masses, through 80 years of hardship but heroic, the Armed Forces of Military Region 1 have always shown their loyalty, solidarity, initiative, creativity, determination to overcome hardships, sacrifices, self-reliance, self-strengthening, striving to excellently complete all tasks assigned by the Party, State and people, worthy of Uncle Ho's praise: "The revolution was successful thanks to Viet Bac, then the resistance will be victorious thanks to Viet Bac."

With the typical feats and achievements gained over the past 80 years, the Armed Forces of Military Region 1 were honored to be awarded by the Party and State with 1 Gold Star Order, 2 Ho Chi Minh Orders, 1 Second-class Independence Order; 2 First-class Military Exploit Orders, 1 Third-class Military Exploit Order and 2 Fatherland Protection Orders; hundreds of collectives and individuals were awarded Military Exploit Orders, various types of Military Exploit Orders and many other noble awards.

The above outstanding feats and achievements have contributed to building the glorious tradition of "Loyalty, Pioneering, Solidarity, Victory" of the Armed Forces of Military Region 1.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary To Lam respectfully sent his best regards and best wishes to the Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Labor Heroes, generals, officers, veterans, cadres and soldiers of the armed forces and militia of Military Region 1 through the ages; and congratulated the feats and achievements that the cadres and soldiers of the armed forces of Military Region 1 have achieved over the past 80 years.

The General Secretary emphasized that Viet Bac - Military Region 1 has always been identified as an important strategic area, a solid "fence", a "shield" in the Northeast of the Fatherland; the place chosen by Uncle Ho and the Party Central Committee as a revolutionary base.

This is the birthplace of the National Salvation Army and the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army - the predecessor of the Vietnam People's Army; the origin of historic decisions in the August 1945 General Uprising to seize power and the resistance war against the French colonialists, becoming the "Cradle of Revolution", "Resistance Capital" of the whole country.

The General Secretary stated that, promoting the tradition of the revolutionary homeland, over the past 80 years, together with the people of the ethnic groups in Viet Bac, the armed forces of Military Region 1 have regularly thoroughly grasped the military and defense viewpoints of the Party and State; proactively grasped and accurately forecasted the situation, closely coordinated with local Party committees and authorities, and well performed military and defense tasks in the area.

The unit focuses on building and consolidating national defense potential and a solid people's war posture, focusing on building increasingly in-depth defense zones, promoting effectiveness on both the border and inland; combined with socio-economic development and strengthening national defense, security and foreign affairs tasks.

The unit, together with local Party committees and authorities, effectively participated in the work of preventing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, search and rescue, gratitude movements, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, contributing to beautifying the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the hearts of the people.

Focus on building a strong, compact and elite military force in the Military Region

To successfully carry out the tasks assigned by the Party, State and Army, continue to promote the fine traditions of the Military Region, be worthy of the noble awards that the Party and State have bestowed upon it, and to successfully fulfill the functions and tasks of the strategic-campaign level unit of the Ministry of National Defense in key areas of the country, the General Secretary requested the armed forces of Military Region 1 to regularly thoroughly grasp and grasp the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws.

The unit well implemented "2 steadfastness, 2 promotion and 2 prevention" to successfully carry out the directions, goals, military and defense tasks and build the Party Committee of the Army and Military Region.

The General Secretary noted that he paid attention to building a strong and comprehensive armed force for the Military Region, taking strong political building as the foundation, focusing on thoroughly grasping and successfully implementing the Resolution of the Military Region 1 Party Congress, the Resolution of the 12th Military Party Congress and the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party; the conclusions and regulations of the Central Executive Committee and the Central Military Commission on the work of building and rectifying the Party and the political system; ensuring that the armed forces of the Military Region truly have a steadfast political stance, are absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland and the people; have confidence in the art of combat and the weapons and equipment of the Army, and are ready to fight and defeat all invaders.

The General Secretary emphasized the need to regularly and thoroughly grasp the Party's military-defense viewpoints and guidelines, firmly grasp the task of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation, especially the major orientations on defense and military work adopted by the 13th National Party Congress and the contents mentioned in the draft Political Report submitted to the 14th National Party Congress.

The unit focuses on building a strong, compact, revolutionary, disciplined, elite, modern armed force of the Military Region, improving its overall strength, level, and combat capability...; ensuring good logistics and technical reserves for combat readiness; taking good care of soldiers' lives, ensuring good disease prevention and control work; actively promoting increased production and practicing thrift; managing, exploiting, and using good, durable, safe, economical, and traffic-safe technical equipment...

The armed forces of Military Region 1 proactively coordinate closely with other forces in implementing foreign policy, building a peaceful and friendly border; effectively performing the function of a "working army" and doing a good job of propaganda and mobilizing the people; fighting to defeat the "peaceful evolution" plot of hostile forces; maintaining political stability and social order and safety.

The armed forces of Military Region 1 closely coordinate with local Party committees, authorities and people to actively participate in economic, cultural and social development, effectively carry out the movement "Armed forces of Military Region join hands to build new rural areas"; link infrastructure development with improving people's lives; participate in implementing sustainable poverty reduction programs...; effectively carry out economic development projects combined with national defense and people's livelihood; send army units for field training combined with mass mobilization work to help people stabilize their lives and develop the economy.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, General Secretary To Lam awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal to Military Region 1, Ministry of National Defense for its long tradition, great contributions, and outstanding achievements in the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
