Currently, there are more and more scammers using technology and electronic techniques to impersonate and steal information and assets of taxpayers. In this situation, the General Department of Taxation has issued Official Letter No. 2373 directing tax authorities nationwide to strengthen personal income tax management and issue warnings and recommendations on preventive measures for taxpayers to be aware of and vigilant against fraud.
According to Official Dispatch No. 2373, fraudsters have used a number of technological and technical tricks to impersonate tax officials and tax authorities, fraudulently stealing and appropriating taxpayers' information and assets. Some common behaviors and tricks of fraudsters today include:
Firstly, impersonating tax authorities and claiming to be tax officials, to threaten, request information, send citizen identification images to receive support and instructions on tax reduction procedures, tax refunds, tax settlements and to serve inspection work; or instructing to send links to install fake applications to take control of the phone and steal money from the taxpayer's bank account.
Second, fake websites have an interface similar to the website of an agency or business, from images to content, so that users mistakenly believe it is the website of the supplier.
Third, fake SMS messages from the General Department of Taxation to spread fake messages, to provide fake links and instructions to take control of phones/computers to steal money in bank accounts.
Currently, the Tax Department does not have a policy of sending tax officials to make phone calls to connect via social networks.
To ensure the rights and interests of taxpayers and raise awareness against fraudulent tricks, the General Department of Taxation notes and warns taxpayers about forms of fraud and recommends preventive measures.
Specifically, do not provide personal information or bank account information to anyone over the phone or on social networks; carefully check communications, especially requests to transfer money or provide information over the phone or on social networks.
In particular, absolutely do not click on links attached in text messages, Zalo, Facebook,... claiming to be tax agency representatives providing instructions on tax procedures.
"The Tax Department does not have a policy of sending tax officials to make phone calls to connect via social networks such as Zalo, Facebook, etc. It is recommended to support the installation of Tax Department applications on computers, mobile phones and other networked devices to receive tax reductions, tax refunds, and resolve tax administrative procedures," the General Department of Taxation emphasized.
The General Department of Taxation said it will strictly handle cases where businesses use personal information (name, tax code, ID card number) to declare and calculate salary and wage expenses when determining corporate income tax obligations while there is no actual income payment to the individual .
