During the peak, the province identified 3 key areas that needed strict control, including: Tan Chau Town, Tinh Bien, Chau Doc City, because these places are both border gateways and trading centers in the domestic market. In just 1 month, the whole province inspected 220 cases, discovered 102 violations, including 55 cases of smuggling, 9 cases of counterfeit goods and 38 other violations. The functional forces handled 57 cases, collected more than 642 million VND for the budget, confiscated infringing goods worth over 732 million VND. Notably, the destruction of a fake fish sauce and laundry detergent production facility in Long Xuyen City, seized more than 3,000 liters of unlabeled products, worth 290 million VND. In addition, the Border Guard also seized 3,750 packs of smuggled cigarettes, 700 kg of sugar, and 30 cases of beer in the border area. “We have determined that the work of combating smuggling and trade fraud has no forbidden areas and no exceptions. This is not a short-term campaign but a continuous task. After this peak period, the province will continue to implement phase 2 to continue controlling smuggled, counterfeit, fake and poor quality goods, protecting the rights of consumers, protecting legitimate businesses…” - Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 389 emphasized.

Many cases have been discovered during this peak period.

One of the notable changes during this peak period is the tightening of inspections on e-commerce platforms, where subjects often take advantage to sell goods of unknown origin and livestream violating products. Specifically, the authorities have inspected 4 websites and 9 Facebook accounts selling goods, handling 10 cases, with a total value of violations of more than 85 million VND. According to records, subjects often use virtual accounts, fake addresses, and even sell goods right at their own homes, causing great difficulties in handling. "The province has established a specialized unit to monitor e-commerce, and at the same time proposed to build a shared database among sectors to provide early warning of hot spots" - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Minh Hung informed.

Along with inspection and handling measures, the province has synchronously deployed propaganda and mobilization work. During the month, the authorities published 566 news and articles, organized 6 propaganda conferences, coordinated with the front, border guards, Department of Health ... contributing to raising legal awareness and compliance of people and traders. "To effectively combat smuggling, we cannot only use force. We must make people understand that they are the front line, the supervisors, the market keepers, the border keepers" - Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung, Head of Working Group 797 shared more.

Although many results have been achieved in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods. However, this work still faces many difficulties, such as: E-commerce management still has many shortcomings, lacking tools to track down actual sellers. The post-inspection mechanism is still weak, the force is thin, and technology is limited. The "self-declaration of products" policy is easily exploited, causing great pressure on inspection and examination. Faced with this reality, the province has proposed that the Central Government soon amend the Law on Advertising and the Law on E-commerce, adding a strong penalty mechanism for repeat offenders. At the same time, it is proposed to build a quick feedback platform between people and the government, expand regional testing centers, and shorten the time to handle cases of suspected counterfeit and poor quality goods. In the coming time, the province will continue to implement the peak plan of phase 2, focusing on "sensitive" goods such as: functional foods, agricultural supplies, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, gasoline, especially strengthening inspection on e-commerce platforms.

In Vinh Xuong commune (Tan Chau town), an area close to the Cambodian border, many people expressed their high agreement with the recent peak period. “In the past, we sold genuine Vietnamese goods and could not compete because outsiders brought smuggled goods back to sell at a cheaper price. Now, the government has taken strong action and eliminated many places selling goods without documents. Traders in this market are very happy. Only then can we do business,” said Mr. Tran Van Nam (a trader at Vinh Xuong market).
