The state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife will take place on May 25-27, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 21.

Mr. Macron, 47 years old, became President of France in May 2016. He has held many important positions such as financial inspector at the French Ministry of Economy and Finance, Deputy Secretary General of the French President's Office and Minister of Economy and Finance. He is sympathetic to Vietnam and loves Vietnamese cuisine.
Vietnam and France established diplomatic relations on April 12, 1973, becoming Strategic Partners in 2013 and Comprehensive Strategic Partners in October 2024. France is the first EU country to have the highest level of relations with Vietnam.
France is Vietnam's 5th largest European trading partner, with trade turnover in 2024 reaching 5.42 billion USD, up 12.9% compared to 2023. France ranks 16th out of 147 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 700 valid investment projects, total registered capital reaching 3.95 billion USD. Vietnam has 20 investment projects in France with total registered capital reaching 38.93 million USD.
France is the leading European bilateral ODA donor to Vietnam, providing and lending 16.7 billion EUR in preferential loans from 1993 to 2022, focusing on the fields of infrastructure, technology transfer, agriculture, green industry and finance. Vietnam ranks second among the countries receiving French ODA. The Vietnamese community in France currently has about 350,000 people.
