On the evening of June 23, Mr. Prigozhin called for an "armed uprising" to overthrow Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu. The Russian Federal Security Service immediately responded by opening a criminal investigation into the Wagner tycoon.
Mr Prigozhin posted a series of videos and audio recordings accusing Minister Shoigu of “ordering a missile attack on Wagner field camps in Ukraine on June 23” where his forces were fighting.
“This is not a military coup but an act of justice,” Mr. Prigozhin declared.

The Russian Defense Ministry denied carrying out the missile attack. The National Anti-Terrorism Committee of the Federal Security Service (FSB) said Mr Prigozhin would be investigated for inciting an armed uprising.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has been informed of the situation, according to TASS news agency. The FSB has called on Wagner members to arrest Mr Prigozhin and not to follow his “treacherous and criminal orders.” The Russian Defense Ministry called Mr Prigozhin’s statements a “stab in the back of the Russian military” and said they could trigger an armed conflict in the country.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that President Putin will give a speech on June 24 on the above issue.
Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov has reported to President Putin about opening a criminal case against Mr. Prigozhin.
