This is Victor Sheppard's second Toyota Tundra to reach this incredible milestone in less than 20 years, after previously accomplishing the same feat with a 2007 Tundra. |

What’s special is that this 2014 Toyota Tundra and the one before it both use a 5.7L V8 gasoline engine, not the diesel pickups commonly found in “million-mile” vehicles. Sheppard – a driver transporting equipment for the oil and gas industry in the US – drives an average of 500km/day. A disciplined lifestyle and regular maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer are the secrets that help him maintain the car’s incredibly durable performance. |

His first 2007 Tundra was so impressive that Toyota took it back to its Alabama factory to have its powertrain “dissected.” The result? A system with virtually no major faults, an engine that was as good as a new car with 100,000 miles on it. The interior was also remarkably intact, despite its owner being nearly 6 feet tall and weighing 440 pounds. |

Toyota later gifted Sheppard a 2016 Tundra Limited as a token of appreciation for hitting the million-mile mark. However, the Tundra that hit the milestone the second time was a 2014 SR5 Double Cab that he bought himself while still driving his first car. |

When the transmission began to show signs of wear at 780,000 miles, Sheppard drove it for another 80,000 miles before replacing it—a testament to the resilience of Japanese pickups. In fact, 780,000 miles alone surpassed the 1 million km mark—a dream for many conventional commercial vehicles. |

Victor Sheppard’s story is not only a testament to the Toyota Tundra’s durability , but also a testament to the value of proper maintenance. In an age of electric vehicles and technology aplenty, “mechanically pure” vehicles like the Tundra still prove their class through uncompromising durability and reliability. |
