Ho Chi Minh City prevents Thanh Hoa from taking the lead in V-League

Playing with one less player, Thanh Hoa tied with Ho Chi Minh City 1-1 in round 6 on the afternoon of December 16, missing the opportunity to take the top spot in the V-League 2023-2024 table.

At home, Thanh Hoa did not have their number one central defender Gustavo Santos. Nguyen Thanh Long was assigned to play as a substitute, but made a mistake and received a red card in the 2nd minute. The home team player illegally blocked Ho Tuan Tai right before the Ho Chi Minh City FC striker had a chance to enter the penalty area to face the goalkeeper. Referee Nguyen Manh Hai showed a yellow card, but after consulting VAR, overturned the initial decision and gave Thanh Long a direct red card.

In the 70th minute, the score was opened for Thanh Hoa. From a strong throw-in on the right wing by A Mit, the ball hit Antonio Luiz's head and then fell to the hand of defender Vo Huu Viet Hoang. Referee Nguyen Manh Hai took five minutes to consult VAR before deciding to award the home team a penalty. From the 11m mark, Rimario shot into the lower right corner, fooling goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang.

But luck was not on the side of the Thanh team. In the 81st minute, substitute striker Paul Georges Ntep passed the ball to Ho Tuan Tai to accelerate into the penalty area on the right wing. The striker born in 1995 shot hit Dinh Tien Thanh's leg, causing the ball to go over goalkeeper Xuan Hoang's head and into the net, equalizing 1-1 for Ho Chi Minh City Club.

In the final minutes of the match, Ntep and Rimario both had the chance to become heroes, but missed the opportunity to score in favorable positions.

The 1-1 result helped Thanh Hoa continue to be the only unbeaten team in the Night Wolf V-League 2023-2024 national championship. However, the Thanh team missed the opportunity to take the lead, when in the same match, Binh Duong defeated Nam Dinh 3-2 and rose to the number one position.

Thanh Hoa currently has 12 points and is ranked third, one point behind Binh Duong and Nam Dinh. Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City is ranked sixth with nine points, equal to Hanoi Police and goal difference but inferior in goals (8 compared to 9).
