On April 28, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that last week (from April 19 to 25), the city recorded 63 measles cases with addresses in the city, down 43.9% compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks (112 cases), including 36 inpatient cases (down 40.5%) and 27 outpatient cases (down 47.8%).
Regarding the distribution of cases by age group, specifically, there were 673 cases of children under 6 months old (accounting for 7.1%); 1,025 cases from 6 to under 9 months old (accounting for 10.8%), 612 cases from 9 to under 12 months old (accounting for 6.5%), 1,857 cases from 1-5 years old (accounting for 19.6%), 1,123 cases from 6-10 years old (accounting for 11.9%), 2,467 cases from 11-17 years old (accounting for 26.1%) and 1,695 cases from 18 years old and above (accounting for 17.9%).
Regarding vaccination history, 1,698 cases were recorded under 9 months - not old enough to be vaccinated according to the National Expanded Immunization Program (accounting for 18.0%), 7,754 cases were old enough to be vaccinated, of which 2,937 cases were not vaccinated, 3,386 cases had unknown vaccination history, 732 cases received 1 measles dose and 699 cases received 2 measles doses.
Regarding measles cases with addresses in other provinces, according to recorded data from the Infectious Disease Surveillance Management System from 4 major hospitals in the city, in the past week, Ho Chi Minh City received 53 measles cases with addresses in other provinces, down 56.2% compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks (121 cases). Accumulated to the end of last week, 13,804 measles cases with addresses in other provinces were recorded. The total number of measles cases from other provinces treated in Ho Chi Minh City accounted for 59.4% of the total number of measles cases, adding more sources of spread, making it difficult to completely control the epidemic.
Faced with the above situation, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health requested the People's Committees of districts and Thu Duc City to continue to monitor and detect new cases and isolate cases with symptoms of respiratory tract infection. At the same time, continue to propose the Department of Health to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee procedures to declare the end of the measles epidemic for wards, communes and towns that meet the conditions according to the Department of Health's instructions on "Guidelines for implementing procedures to declare the end of group B and C infectious diseases in Ho Chi Minh City".
