Tran Quyet Chien convincingly won the opening match: Vietnamese Billiards ranked first in the group

On the evening of March 13, the Vietnamese team will face the Jordanian team at the 2025 World Team Carom Billiards Championship (currently taking place in Viersen, Germany). Accordingly, Tran Quyet Chien will face Mashhour Abu Tayeh, while Bao Phuong Vinh will face Ahmed Al Ghababsheh. Against opponents who were considered much weaker, the two excellent players of Vietnam did not have much difficulty winning the opening match.

Tran Quyet Chien won the right to start and scored 2 points. On the other hand, the Jordanian player also started the game quite well, creating a balanced game in the first rounds. After the first 5 rounds, the score was 8-8. But after this point, Quyet Chien started to speed up with regular scoring rounds, leading 13-8, 17-8, 18-9... At the time the match entered the break after 12 rounds, Tran Quyet Chien had more than double the points compared to his opponent, leading 20-9.

After the break, Abu Tayeh still could not score, and Tran Quyet Chien took advantage to increase the gap. In the 14th turn, Quyet Chien had a series of 5 to lead 25-11. In the 19th turn, Vietnam's number 1 player had a sprint with a series of 8 and was only 3 points away from victory. In the end, Tran Quyet Chien won 40-19 against Mashhour Abu Tayeh.

In the same match, Bao Phuong Vinh also had an easy victory with a large difference of 40-7 against Ahmed Al Ghababsheh, after 23 rounds.

The remaining match of Group C also took place on the evening of March 13 between Belgium and Sweden. The results were as follows: Torbjorn Blomdahl (Sweden) tied 40-40 with Peter Ceulemans (Belgium) after 34 rounds, while Roland Forthomme (Belgium) won 40-33 against Nalle Olsson after 36 rounds.

The Vietnamese team won all their opening matches, temporarily rising to the top of Group C after the first round. Belgium ranked 2nd, Sweden ranked 3rd, and Jordan ranked last. Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh will play the second round of Group C on the afternoon of March 14.

At the 2025 World Team Carom Billiards Championship, 16 participating teams are divided into 4 groups (4 teams in each group). In the group stage, the teams will compete in a round-robin format to calculate points and rank. In the group stage, 2 players from each team will compete on 2 different tables. The first and second place teams in each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.
