Overview of the ceremony |
The Buddha's Birthday, or the Threefold Day - commemorating the Buddha's birth, enlightenment and Nirvana, is an occasion to review together the noble life, the selfless, altruistic teachings, full of love and wisdom, which are not only a source of comfort but also offer practical solutions to transform personal suffering, creating a peaceful environment for all living beings.
Today's world is suffering from natural disasters, epidemics, wars and conflicts. War makes humanity, which is already suffering, even more miserable. Hatred follows hatred, and people have to live in insecurity and fear. The danger of weapons of mass destruction is threatening our beloved planet, destroying human life. More than ever, we respect and strive to practice the precious teachings of the Buddha in building a peaceful, humane and ethical world.
On Buddha's birthday, the season of love and understanding, all Buddhists should diligently practice the Buddha's golden teachings; purify their minds; transform the three poisons of greed, anger, and ignorance into the three pure studies of discipline, concentration, and wisdom; create a solemn and pure true report to form a peaceful and happy supporting report as the Vimalakirti Sutra teaches: "A peaceful mind makes the world peaceful."
On behalf of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Council, monks, nuns and Buddhists, we respectfully pray for the war to end and hatred to disappear. May each person practice more diligently, enter the Samadhi of Compassion, spread love to all living beings, and illuminate this world with the light of compassion and wisdom. With all the sacred meaning of the Buddha's birthday, all Buddhists around the world unite, together with all humanity, living altruistically, creating a world of peace and happiness.
The Buddha's Birthday Offering Ceremony was solemnly and respectfully held with the wholehearted devotion of monks, nuns, and Buddhists.
