Specifically, on the Green Bay 58 boat to visit Ha Long Bay on the afternoon of July 19, Mr. Dinh Duc Hiep (born in 1995, living in Ha Trung 4 area, Ha Lam ward, Quang Ninh province) and 8 family members were present. When the tourist boat suddenly capsized due to strong winds and waves, drowning dozens of passengers, Mr. Hiep continuously dived down to find a way out for everyone.
In the moment of life and death, Mr. Hiep saved his mother, another man and two women. He also tried to pull another man up, but due to his severe injuries, this man did not survive. After that, he and everyone tied a rope to hold this man's body so that it would not drift away.
Authorized by the Central Committee of the Youth Union, Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Youth Union Nguyen Phuong Thao visited and awarded the "Brave Youth" badge to Mr. Dinh Duc Hiep.
It was heartbreaking when he went back to find his girlfriend but it took him more time to reach her. When he pulled her out, she had drunk a lot of water, mixed with gasoline, and was suffocating beyond saving.
Dinh Duc Hiep's story moved many people to tears. Between life and death, he did not choose to save himself first. He accepted the danger to save the lives of his loved ones and those around him.
His selfless, courageous and humane actions have contributed to spreading the spirit of "Where there is a need, there is youth; where there is difficulty, there is youth" and the spirit of courage, compassion, civic responsibility and readiness to act of Quang Ninh youth.
Accordingly, the Youth Union members of Ha Trung 4 Area, Ha Lam Ward, authorized by the Central Youth Union Executive Committee, awarded the "Brave Youth" Badge to Dinh Duc Hiep. On this occasion, the Quang Ninh Provincial Youth Union Executive Committee also awarded a Certificate of Merit to Dinh Duc Hiep.
