Doctors at Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital have just coordinated with other departments to dramatically save the life of a 4-year-old patient with severe abdominal trauma due to a traffic accident.
The child had a grade IV liver rupture, grade I spleen rupture, accompanied by abdominal bleeding. These are serious injuries that directly threaten life if not treated promptly.
The patient is a 4-year-old boy residing in Yen Tu ward, Quang Ninh province. According to the family, about 30 minutes before being admitted to the hospital, the patient was being transported by an adult on a motorbike when unfortunately a traffic collision occurred, causing the patient to be thrown onto the hard ground.

The patient was admitted to the emergency room with a bleeding forehead wound, pale skin and mucous membranes, a rapid pulse of 115 beats/minute, and severe abdominal pain. Ultrasound and abdominal CT scan results showed grade IV liver rupture, grade I spleen rupture, and intra-abdominal hemorrhage.
Immediately, the hospital activated the internal red alert, mobilizing an emergency surgical team including specialists in General Surgery, Anesthesia and Resuscitation, and Intensive Care to intervene.
After more than 1 hour of emergency surgery, doctors controlled the bleeding, performed liver and spleen hemostasis sutures, abdominal drainage, and timely blood transfusion for the child patient.
According to Dr. Vu Duc Thu, Head of the Department of Digestive and General Surgery, closed abdominal trauma can cause organ rupture and bleeding, leading to a critical condition if not detected early. In this case, quick emergency surgery is a vital measure, helping the child overcome the jaws of death.
After surgery, the child received intensive care at the Intensive Care Unit - Pediatrics Department. Thanks to close monitoring and comprehensive treatment, the patient's health is now stable, alert, responsive and gradually recovering.
