In early January 2024, the first case of African Swine Fever (ASF) appeared in Nguyen Thi Minh Khai ward, Bac Kan city. By July 2024, the disease had spread to all 8 communes and wards in the city. Thanks to the decisive efforts of all levels of government, specialized agencies, and the people, from August 2024 to the present, no further outbreaks have been detected in the city; 100% of communes and wards have declared ASF eradicated, and people are reassured to resume livestock farming.

In Cho Don district, African Swine Fever (ASF) first appeared in Luong Bang commune at the end of March 2024; by August 2024, all 18 out of 20 communes and towns in the district had outbreaks. Immediately after the outbreak, Cho Don district directed specialized agencies and localities to seriously implement disease prevention and control measures. By November 20, 2024, with the District People's Committee declaring the ASF outbreak over in Xuan Lac commune, all 18 communes and towns in Cho Don district that had ASF outbreaks were now free of the disease.

From the beginning of the year until November 20, 2024, over 4,000 livestock farming households in 719 villages and 102 communes across 8 districts and cities were affected by African Swine Fever (ASF), resulting in the death and destruction of nearly 20,000 pigs, totaling over 750.4 tons. The ASF situation in the province is showing signs of slowing down. Many localities have effectively implemented prevention and control measures, successfully containing the disease. As of November 21, 2024, 75 out of 102 communes, wards, and towns in the province have declared the outbreak over; 12 communes have gone 21 days without an outbreak; and 15 communes have not yet gone 21 days without an outbreak.

Specifically, Cho Don district and Bac Kan city have declared the epidemic over in 100% of their communes, wards, and towns. Na Ri district has declared the epidemic over in 15 out of 17 communes and towns with outbreaks, with one commune having passed the 21-day mark and one commune not yet. Cho Moi district has declared the epidemic over in 13 communes and towns, with only Quang Chu commune not yet having passed the 21-day mark. Bach Thong district has declared the epidemic over in 8 communes and towns, with 6 communes having passed the 21-day mark without detecting any new outbreaks.

To effectively prevent African Swine Fever (ASF) in a timely manner, restore production, and ensure food supply during the year-end and Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday in 2025, the Provincial People's Committee has directed relevant departments and agencies, as well as the People's Committees of districts and cities, to focus on implementing decisively and synchronously solutions for preventing and controlling African Swine Fever in the province.

Accordingly, the People's Committees of districts and cities will continue to implement disease prevention and control work as directed by the Provincial People's Committee in the issued documents. They will direct specialized agencies at the district level and the People's Committees of communes to mobilize resources and promptly provide supplies and chemicals to completely eliminate outbreaks, preventing the emergence of new outbreaks; prevent and resolutely handle cases of buying, selling, and transporting sick pigs, and discarding dead pigs that spread disease and pollute the environment. They will continue to direct and urge villages/hamlets to review and encourage households raising pigs that have not yet vaccinated against African Swine Fever to urgently carry out vaccination; strengthen the application of hygiene and disinfection measures in pig pens and surrounding areas at high risk. They will direct specialized agencies to guide farmers in safely restocking their herds…/.
