(QBĐT) - Triathlon, also known as 3 combined sports including running, swimming and cycling, is a sport for people with a spirit of steel, they are likened to "iron men". Although this "harsh" sport has just appeared in Quang Binh , it has attracted many people to participate in training to challenge their own endurance...
Practice discipline
To practice Triathlon, athletes must first swim, then cycle and finally run to reach the finish line. This is a sport that requires players to have physical and mental endurance. According to the regulations, the events of this sport take place consecutively for 10 hours without a break, even when transitioning between events. Triathlon first appeared in 1970, before being included in the Olympic competition program since 2000 in Sydney (Australia).
Triathlon is divided into 4 types and each type will have different competition distances. First, Sprint Triathlon includes 750m swimming, 20km cycling and 5km running. Second, Olympic Triathlon sets athletes to swim 1.5km, cycle 40km and run 10km. Third, Half Ironman Triathlon with the challenge of swimming 1.9km, cycling 90km and running 21.1km. Fourth, Full Ironman Triathlon, athletes must overcome 3.8km swimming, 180km cycling and running 42.1km.

According to experts, Triathlon always brings its own challenges to the practitioners, requiring them to maintain discipline, perseverance and true passion to conquer themselves. Practicing this sport is not just for a week or a month but must be calculated in years.
Along with Triathlon, there are similar sports but with less combination content such as Aquathlon (2 events including running-swimming) and Duathlon (2 events including running and cycling). These are sports that help players practice discipline and high endurance.
Encourage training spirit
Currently in Quang Binh, this challenging Triathlon sport is becoming more and more popular, attracting the participation of many practitioners. Recently, on September 1, the Quang Binh Swimming, Cycling and Running Club (QB Triathlon Club) organized a swimming and running training activity to explore Yen Island, a tropical sea paradise with a 2.9km swim and a 9.2km run. 14 members of the club enthusiastically participated in this challenge.
Mr. Tran Tho, Head of the Quang Binh Swimming, Cycling and Running Club, shared that to encourage and motivate the members to practice, with a voluntary spirit, in the form of socialization, the brothers in the club contributed money to rent cars, SUP paddles, drinking water... to organize a "picnic" at Yen Island (Quang Dong Commune, Quang Trach).
Moving to Vung Chua, the members quickly warmed up to start the 2.9km swim to Yen Island. In the morning, the sea in Vung Chua was very peaceful. The members of the club in swimming costumes with goggles and specialized hats were ready. And to ensure safety, each person must bring a personal life buoy; at the same time, there are 3 SUP paddlers accompanying to support individuals when necessary.
In the cool water, the gentle arms swam like otters towards Yen Island, looking very excited. After swimming to the distance of 1.5km, the members turned back to complete the 2.9km content and continued the 9.2km running journey on the coastal roads of Vung Chua.

According to Mr. Tran Tho, to compete in the triathlon, members must be healthy, use their endurance continuously and sequentially combine swimming and running or running, swimming, cycling. To conquer these challenges, each person must coordinate their breathing and maintain their endurance throughout the swimming distance. In the running event, each person has a suitable training regimen, the frequency and distance of training depends on each person's experience and physical strength.
Participating in the "picnic" to challenge himself, Mr. Phan Thanh Hoai (working at MobiFone Quang Binh) shared: "I have been practicing Triathlon since 2020. Compared to marathon training, this sport requires a lot of perseverance and willpower. Every week, I usually practice on weekends to improve my physical strength. Although it is difficult and tiring, I always try my best to complete my goals. I also participated in the Triathlon competition for 2 consecutive years in 2022 and 2023 in Da Nang City to challenge myself in the 1.9km swim, 90km bike ride and 21km run."

To gather members who love these three combined sports, in August 2023, the Quang Binh Swimming, Cycling and Running Club was founded by 6 members.
