Painting exhibition commemorating 132 years since Dr. Yersin set foot on Lang Biang plateau

Commemorating the 132nd anniversary of Dr. Yersin's arrival on Lang Biang plateau (June 21, 1893 - June 21, 2025), an exhibition of paintings by artist Nguyen Bao Chau has just opened at the ancient villa area of Cadasa Da Lat.

Painter Nguyen Bao Chau is grateful to Dr. Yersin, who set foot on Lam Vien plateau exactly 132 years ago, thanks to which Da Lat exists today.

Artist Nguyen Bao Chau is 81 years old this year, a teacher who specializes in teaching drawing to many generations of students. He spent time living in Buon Ma Thuot, growing coffee and painting to satisfy his passion.

Since 1984, painter Nguyen Bao Chau came to Da Lat city to start a career. Although life was still difficult, because of his love for the mountain town of Da Lat, he walked along the poetic streets and typical architectural works every day to paint.

On the occasion of the 132nd anniversary of Dr. Yersin's arrival on Lang Biang plateau (June 21, 1893 - June 21, 2025), with the support of Lam Dong Province Literature and Arts Association and Mr. Nguyen The Hung (Cadasa ancient villa area), for the first time, painter Nguyen Bao Chau held a painting exhibition with the theme "DaLat - Ban Me, two halves of the plateau" with 35 paintings painted with oil and pigment.

In particular, there are paintings depicting the scene of explorer, doctor Alessandro Yersin and his entourage arriving at Lam Vien plateau on the afternoon of June 21, 1893, along with the special architecture of the mountain town of Da Lat such as the train station, Da Lat Cathedral (chicken church), the Governor's Palace...

"Living in Da Lat, I am grateful to Dr. Yersin. Before creating paintings about Dr. Yersin arriving in Lam Vien plateau, I had to read and research many documents to gain empathy to create the most vivid and realistic painting material," artist Nguyen Bao Chau shared.

After its opening, the painting gallery of artist Nguyen Bao Chau on the 2nd floor of an ancient villa in the Cadasa area of Da Lat attracted many art lovers from within the country and abroad to come and enjoy.

The gallery is open until 21.8.2025
