The 3-phase super-intensive shrimp farming model using low-water-change and bio-safety recirculation technology has been successfully piloted by Ca Mau people. The yield of each shrimp crop reaches 60 tons/ha.
Mr. Huynh Thai Nguyen's family (in Hung My commune, Cai Nuoc district, Ca Mau province) has implemented a 3-stage super-intensive commercial white-leg shrimp farming model using low-water-change circulation technology and biosafety (super-intensive, biosafety shrimp farming) for 5 crops.
The results showed that all 5 farming crops were successful, with an average farming time of 90 days/crop, yielding shrimps of 26-40 shrimps/kg, with an average yield of 60 tons/ha/crop. Through calculations, the total investment cost for each kg of shrimp until harvest is from 80,000 - 100,000 VND, the selling price is from 120,000 - 140,000 VND (depending on size).
The 3-stage biosafety super-intensive tram farming model of Huynh Thai Nguyen's family
Mr. Huynh Thai Nguyen's family is one of two households in Ca Mau province implementing the Biosafety Super-Intensive Shrimp Farming Project. Participating in the project, households are supported by the State and Cirad organization with 30% of the investment cost for farming.
The advantage of this farming model is that it can produce 6-8 crops per year; the farmed shrimp are antibiotic-free, the quality of the farmed shrimp meets export standards; the recirculating farming system does not discharge waste into the outside environment.
Recently, Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Ca Mau province, and a working delegation visited and surveyed the biosafety super-intensive shrimp farming model of supported households. The functional agencies of Ca Mau province assessed that the biosafety super-intensive shrimp farming project has been initially successful, especially in verifying the effectiveness of farming technology. However, there are still some limitations that need to be overcome in terms of pond design and investment costs.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai, Secretary of Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee (far right) and the working delegation surveyed the model.
During the survey trip, Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai directed the functional sectors and localities in the province to recalculate the planning of farming areas, concentrated farming areas, avoiding small-scale farming to mobilize State investment in infrastructure to serve the people; support farmers in terms of policies, techniques, capital, etc.
Ca Mau has the strength of shrimp farming, so any method or technology used must aim for the best results for farmers; it is necessary to aim for clean shrimp farming, ensuring no environmental pollution and minimizing disease.
