On the afternoon of May 6, at the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the contract signing ceremony and announcement of the new head coach of the Vietnam National Men's Team and the Vietnam National U23 Team took place.

After a period of urgently researching and reviewing the candidates' profiles, VFF has conducted meetings with potential candidates for the position of Head Coach of the Men's National Team and the Vietnam National U23 Team. VFF and Coach Kim Sang-sik have reached a cooperation agreement in a 2-year contract (from May 1, 2024 to March 31, 2026).
Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong presented flowers to congratulate the head coach of the Vietnam National Team.
Speaking at the ceremony, VFF Vice President Tran Anh Tu affirmed: "To ensure the stability of the Vietnam National Team and the Vietnam U23 Team participating in international tournaments, in the past time, VFF has actively deployed the search for suitable personnel. With the attention and close direction of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Physical Training and Sports, and the consultation of the Coaching Council, VFF has researched, reviewed, and contacted. Today, VFF officially announced that Coach Kim Sang-sik will take on the position of Head Coach of the Vietnam National Men's Team and the Vietnam National U23 Team for a period of 2 years."
Mr. Tran Anh Tu expressed that VFF believes that with his proven level and capacity as well as his aspirations and experience, Coach Kim Sang-sik and the members of the coaching staff will build an effective playing style, promote collective strength for the national team as well as U23 Vietnam to compete and achieve results, complete assigned tasks, and meet the expectations of fans.
The contract between VFF and coach Kim Sang-sik is for 2 years.
Speaking at the ceremony, Coach Kim Sang-sik expressed: "I feel very honored to be here to introduce myself to Vietnamese football fans and I am also looking forward to the time to work and accompany Vietnamese football, especially Vietnamese football players. My philosophy is winning football, based on the spirit of determination towards victory.
I think that if we are determined to challenge ourselves and determined to win every match, we can create miracles. If all members have determination, I believe we can achieve the desired results."
After officially taking over as Head Coach of the Vietnam National Men's Team and U23 Team, Coach Kim Sang-sik and his students will participate in football events and international tournaments from May 2024 to March 2026.
The first task for the new Korean head coach is to lead the Vietnam National Team to participate in the remaining two matches in the second qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Asia, respectively against the Philippines National Team at home on June 6, 2024 and against the Iraq National Team away on June 11, 2024 (early morning of June 12, 2024 Vietnam time).
For the Vietnam National U23 team, new head coach Kim Sang-sik will also be given the best conditions to prepare for the 2026 AFC U23 Qualifiers scheduled to take place in September 2025 and then the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand in December 2025.
Coach Kim Sang-sik is trusted and expected to work with the Vietnam National Men's Team and U23 Team to successfully achieve the goals set for Vietnamese football in the coming time.
Coach Kim Sang-sik also expressed his hope that with the cultural similarities and good relations between Vietnam and Korea, he will receive the encouragement of Vietnamese fans and the support of the media, thereby creating more motivation for him to confidently take on the responsibility of a head coach and achieve success in his new position, thereby contributing to the development of Vietnamese football.

- Was a member of the Korean national team that participated in the 2006 World Cup, won third place in the 2000 and 2007 Asian Cups.
- Degree: Professional football coach (Pro)-AFC/KFA.
- Professional coaching career:
* From 2013 to 2020: Assistant Head Coach of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Club in K-League 1.
During this period, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Club won a total of 6 K-League 1 championships, 1 runner-up position, 1 National Cup championship and 1 AFC Champions League championship.
* 2021: Mr. Kim Sang Sik took on the position of head coach of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Club and soon made his mark by leading the club to win the K-League 1-2021 and the 2022 Korean National Cup. Notably, in his first year as head coach, Mr. Kim Sang Sik won the title of "Best Coach of 2021" voted by the K-League.
