Kinhtedothi- Using soybeans and coffee husks to produce hundreds of tons of ground coffee for sale on the market, a Chairman of the Board of Directors and Branch Director were prosecuted.
On February 22, the Economic Police Department, Dak Lak Provincial Police announced that the unit had prosecuted Nguyen Thanh Hai (Chairman of the Board of Directors) and Le Thi Thanh Tam (Branch Director) of Phat Hai Production, Trade and Service Company for the crime of manufacturing and trading counterfeit goods.
Previously, the Economic Police Department - Dak Lak Provincial Police discovered a grocery store in Buon Ma Thuot City selling more than 100 kg of ground coffee under the brands Phat Hai Weasel Coffee and Coffee Phat Hai of Phat Hai Production, Trade and Service Company.
Coffee samples were taken and rapid test results showed that the caffeine content was only 0.41% - 0.46% - much lower than the content stated on the packaging of ≥ 1%.
The following day, the police conducted an emergency search at the company’s branch in Binh Duong province and its headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City. There, the Economic Police Department seized more than 2,800 packages of ground coffee, 7,500 kg of soybeans, 5,500 kg of crushed coffee husks, 2,000 kg of roasted soybeans mixed with crushed coffee husks, and many other exhibits.
The investigation results determined that Nguyen Thanh Hai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Phat Hai Production, Trade and Service Company, used 10% coffee beans and additives, 70% soybeans, and 20% coffee husks to produce fake coffee. The caffeine content was only from 0.39% to 0.41% compared to the packaging stating 1%.
The seized books show that in just the first 11 months of 2024, Phat Hai Company Branch produced and sold 7 types of ground coffee that did not meet quality standards in terms of caffeine content, with a total of 344 tons, worth about 20 billion VND.
Also during this time, the Economic Police Department - Dak Lak Provincial Police discovered Luong Dinh De (residing in Buon Ho town, Dak Lak province) driving a car carrying 890 kg of Coffee HLP HUYNH LONG PHAT brand ground coffee to sell to a number of shops in Ea H'Leo district.
At the time of inspection, De could not provide invoices or documents proving the legal origin of the above coffee.
During the struggle, De confessed that he produced all of this ground coffee himself at his factory.
At the factory, the working group seized an additional 610 kg of coffee powder branded Coffee HLP HUYNH LONG PHAT, 500 kg of soybeans, 2 bags of roasted soybeans with additives, 3 cartons of margarine and many other exhibits.
The total amount of ground coffee seized was 1,500 kg. The quick test results showed that the caffeine content was only 0.5%.
The Economic Police Department - Dak Lak Provincial Police also prosecuted defendant Luong Dinh De for the crime of producing and trading counterfeit goods.
