Ms. Phan Thi Thu's family (Tao Ko village, Ia Rong commune, Chu Puh district) is cultivating 7 sao of melons. Previously, she used traditional methods to grow them, so they were often damaged by pests and diseases, leading to low productivity. In 2020, she decided to invest in building a greenhouse and apply pest control solutions according to organic standards.
Accordingly, she uses organic fertilizer for her garden and does not use pesticides. In case of rain, she uses lime powder to absorb moisture and prevent disease-causing bacteria.
“Thanks to the greenhouse, the temperature in the garden is kept stable, the plants grow well, and the yield reaches 4 tons/sao/crop. In 2024, all 7 sao of melons will be cultivated simultaneously, with 3 crops per year, yielding over 84 tons. With a selling price of 30-65 thousand VND/kg, after deducting expenses, I will make a profit of more than 2 billion VND,” Ms. Thu shared.

The family of Mr. Tran Kien Trung (Bi village, Ia Dom commune, Duc Co district) also grows 10 hectares of durian organically. Accordingly, Mr. Trung only uses organic fertilizers and biological pesticides. In addition, he does not use herbicides. In 2023, his family harvested 60 tons of fruit. By 2024, the garden will simultaneously yield more than 100 tons of fruit, selling for 70,000 VND/kg, earning nearly 5 billion VND in profit.
“Thanks to organic farming, my family’s “Trung Thao durian” product was certified as a 3-star OCOP product in 2022. In addition, the entire durian area now has a traceability stamp. In the future, I will create a growing area code to facilitate product output,” Trung said.

In Thong Nhat village (Son Lang commune, Kbang district), Ms. Bui Thi Cam Hong also cultivates 8 sao of Vinh oranges and 2 sao of pink tangerines organically.
According to Ms. Hong, instead of buying fertilizers from the market, she composts coffee husks and rice husks with cow manure, chicken manure and probiotics. At the same time, she does not use pesticides but makes her own biological products from white lime powder, dishwashing liquid, cooking oil and filtered water to prevent pests in her garden.
“Thanks to organic fertilizer, the garden grows well and almost no fruit falls. In recent years, the number of customers has been expanded in some localities such as Binh Dinh, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City , Dak Lak, Quang Nam, Da Nang. Each year, the family harvests over 15 tons of Vinh oranges and 2-4 tons of pink tangerines; after deducting expenses, the profit reaches 200-300 million VND”- Ms. Hong said.
According to information from the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, the province currently has more than 33,000 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds, mainly durian, dragon fruit, banana, avocado, jackfruit, etc. Of which, more than 21,470 hectares are certified for cultivation according to standards. In addition, the province has been granted 166 export growing area codes and 4 growing area codes for fruit trees.
In 2024, the province's fruit output will reach over 522.3 thousand tons, of which many products are exported to countries such as China, Australia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, the United States, etc.
Mr. Hoang Thi Tho - Deputy Head of the Provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection - said: According to the plan, by 2030, Gia Lai will have about 90 thousand hectares of fruit trees. By 2025, the total area of fruit trees will reach about 55 thousand hectares, equivalent to 61.11%.
To achieve the set plan, the province has developed a number of solutions such as: continuing to reorganize production forms, forming concentrated intensive fruit growing areas associated with developing processing facilities and consumption markets.
In addition, synchronously apply scientific and technological advances in production and product preservation; enhance processing, diversify products, especially deep processing to increase value and create differentiation for some advantageous fruits of the province associated with building and developing the Gia Lai fruit brand.
By 2030, the province strives to establish over 25 models of intensive fruit tree production applying high technology associated with preliminary processing and processing in the form of sustainable value chain linkage, meeting export standards.
