On the evening of November 5 (Vietnam time), polling stations in a series of eastern US states opened, an important moment for voters to decide which presidential candidate will lead the US for the next 4 years. Most states opened polling stations at 7am on November 5 local time (6pm Hanoi time), but some states started voting as early as 5am or as late as 10am.
Some states do not have a uniform start time across the state. In New Hampshire, Tennessee and Washington, polls open based on the county or city in the state. Preliminary results will begin to be announced when polls close at around 6 p.m. ET. But with Trump and Harris in a tight race, it could take days to determine the winner.

Previously, Isaac Sissel sent a threat to the National Threat Operations Center (NTOC) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in West Virginia. The content was: "I will carry out an attack on the dirty conservative Christians in the event that Trump wins the election." "I have a stolen AR15 and a target that I refuse to name so that I can continue to carry out my plan," the content continued. "Without a specific victim or the ability to find out where I hid the gun, the FBI will not be able to do anything until I complete the attack."

From the US, Tuoi Tre Online contributor My Khanh took the opportunity to drive around to record polling stations in New York and New Jersey. He said that voting went smoothly and was less crowded than previous years. The reason is that this year, the US has about 210 million voters, of which 87 million voters (about 40%) have voted early since the end of October or voted by mail . "Exit polls in New York show that Ms. Harris is in the lead. However, the two candidates are still closely chasing each other in the battleground states, including the very important state of Pennsylvania," My Khanh told Tuoi Tre Online .

Harris' campaign knocks on more than 100,000 doors in Pennsylvania Harris' campaign team said that as of 11 a.m. on November 5 (local time), the team's staff and volunteers had knocked on more than 100,000 doors across the battleground state of Pennsylvania. This shows that although Harris ended her last campaign in Philadelphia on the evening of November 4, her campaign team continues to operate in a somewhat more direct way. According to CNN, Harris's campaign is very optimistic about this campaign method. Their goal is to strengthen the trust of supporters, appeal to disaffected Republicans in rural districts, and persuade Latino voters. On November 5, vice presidential candidate, Governor Tim Walz, will campaign in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, Ms. Harris is taking part in radio interviews in a last-ditch effort to boost voter turnout in swing states. "I'm going to spend the rest of today talking to people and reminding them to vote... I want people to remember that in our democracy, the people decide and the vote is power," Ms. Harris said on the radio.

Participants must be registered voters in one of seven battleground states and sign a petition supporting the free speech and gun rights amendments to the U.S. Constitution. America PAC awarded 16 $1 million checks, with four going to voters in Pennsylvania.

I think if Mr. Trump is elected, he will bring unity to America. Many friends around me who used to vote for the Democratic Party have now changed their minds and voted for Mr. Trump," this voter explained the reason for his vote. Sharing his wishes if Mr. Trump is elected, the Vietnamese-American voter hopes that the former president will resolve the bloody conflicts happening in Ukraine and the Middle East.

"I hear we're doing very well everywhere." The former president also stressed that this was the "best" campaign of the three he had run. "It won't even be close," he asserted. The Republican candidate then went on to complain about the time it took to compile the results despite "they spent a lot of money on machines." When asked if he told his supporters not to be violent, Mr Trump said he didn't need to tell them because his supporters weren't violent. "I certainly don't want any violence, but I certainly don't need to tell these great people," he said.

This voter continued: "On the economic issue, I may like Mr. Trump more. But after learning, I see that Ms. Harris has a long time working in Congress, she will have experience, contact with many people, see the necessary things to solve to help people in society. And she is young, wise. I support Ms. Harris and hope that she will make America more wonderful. If Ms. Harris is elected, I hope she will make the American economy stronger, create more jobs for Americans to make their lives better. A county in the battleground state of Pennsylvania extends voting hours.

11/05/2024 22:42 GMT+7
Voting hours have been extended in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, after a "software issue" disrupted the scanning of voter ballots, local officials confirmed to CNN. County election officials said they have procedures in place to handle such incidents and that the issue would not prevent voters from casting ballots in their precincts. The county board of elections has filed a court application for the extension and said all completed ballots will be accepted and secured. Some voters who arrived at their polling stations earlier said they were surprised to find the polling place empty before they realized why.

Federal judge rules on Justice Department election oversight

11/05/2024 22:03 GMT+7
On November 5, US District Judge Sarah Pitlyk announced that she would not block the Department of Justice (DOJ) from monitoring polling places in St. Louis, thereby dismissing a lawsuit filed by Republican members of the Missouri state. Ms. Pitlyk pointed to an earlier agreement the city of St. Louis reached with the department to allow DOJ staff to monitor whether the city's polling places complied with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Meanwhile, in a separate lawsuit, Texas state officials said the Justice Department agreed to maintain election monitoring activities outside polling places in this state. Republican members of the Texas Party previously filed a lawsuit to block the DOJ from monitoring elections inside polling places. However, the Texas state government on November 5 affirmed that it had reached an agreement with the DOJ to only allow outside monitors. Federal Magistrate Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk ordered the DOJ to file documents confirming the agreement by November 5.

"We hope to win," Vance told reporters outside the polling place. "But obviously no matter who wins, half the country will be disappointed in some way," he said, hoping to help heal the rifts in America. "I very much hope that you vote for Donald J. Trump today... but if you vote the other way, in my opinion, I will still love you. I will still treat you as a citizen and if I am fortunate enough to be your vice president, I will fight for your dreams and your families for the next four years," Vance said.
