Established on March 6, 1992, the National Sports Training Center II – located in Linh Trung Ward, Thu Duc District, Ho Chi Minh City – has become the second home of generations of athletes called up to the national team and youth team of many sports over the past 30 years. According to the plan approved by the sports industry every year, the teams called up with athletes from the southern provinces have gathered here to train and prepare for competitions in official sports events.

In addition to the headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City, the Center also has a second facility in Mui Ne ( Binh Thuan ) with an area of 8 hectares including resorts, training houses and outdoor soccer fields; a third facility in Da Lat with an area of 10.3 hectares is under construction (phase 1 is expected to be completed in 2022). This is the completed model of the center since it was renamed the Ho Chi Minh City National Sports Training Center in February 2008.

Over 30 years of development, many generations of outstanding coaches and athletes have grown up in the center's training environment, participating and successfully completing assigned tasks at the SEA Games, Asian Games, Olympics as well as other official events, contributing to affirming the maturity and increasing position of Vietnamese sports in the international arena.

In 2021 alone, many outstanding athletes of the center won the right to participate in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics such as Nguyen Van Duong (boxing), Nguyen Tien Minh (badminton), Thach Kim Tuan (weightlifting), Nguyen Thi Anh Vien (swimming). Leading disabled athletes also won the right to participate in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics such as Le Van Cong, Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan (weightlifting), Cao Ngoc Hung, Nguyen Thi Hai (athletics).

Amidst the pandemic outbreak, the Ho Chi Minh City National Sports Training Center closely coordinated with the Vietnam Football Federation and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports to organize a good training program for the Vietnamese futsal team in Ho Chi Minh City and Spain, creating the premise for the explosion of coach Pham Minh Giang and his team at the 2021 Futsal World Cup in Lithuania, passing the group stage to enter the Top 16 teams in the world.

Also in the past two years, despite facing many difficulties, the center has made efforts to adapt, gradually overcoming obstacles to ensure the training cycle, coaching athletes with the "dual goal" of both protecting health during the pandemic season, and maintaining good training, practice and competition readiness.

The facilities are focused on construction, repair and renovation to serve training, improve the quality of meals according to the specific nutritional regimen of each sport, the National Sports Training Center in Ho Chi Minh City has now truly become the "second home" of 37 teams, national youth teams and disabled sports teams with more than 100 coaches, experts and nearly 450 athletes.

With its achievements, the Ho Chi Minh City National Sports Training Center has been awarded many noble prizes by the Party and State, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the General Department of Sports and Physical Training. On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, the Ho Chi Minh City National Sports Training Center was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for its achievements in the process of building and developing the unit in the period of 2016-2021. Many individuals, collectives of managers, civil servants, and coaches were also honored to receive certificates of merit from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
