Mid-Autumn Festival of Love is an annual program organized for children with autism spectrum disorders at the Aikido class - The World is Love and shelters in Ho Chi Minh City. This year, the program was organized at District 3 Youth Union - District 3 Children's House, attracting more than 150 children to participate.
The program "Mid-Autumn Festival of Love" was recently held at the Children's House in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City.
Looking at her daughter happily showing off the moon cakes and lanterns she had just received, Ms. Minh Nguyet (from An Giang ) could not hold back her tears because in the past 22 years, this was the first time she saw her daughter smile so brightly and mature so much.
"My daughter has Down syndrome. She used to study at a special school in An Giang province. Later, she was too old so the school did not accept her anymore. I found out that in Ho Chi Minh City, there is a free Aikido class for disabled children. Therefore, I decided to move to Ho Chi Minh City to live so that my child can study better," said Ms. Minh Nguyet.
Wiping away tears of happiness, the mother said her daughter was more confident and talkative, and her hands and feet were more agile than before.
"I am very happy that there are meaningful classes and programs for children with special illnesses. This helps them have more opportunities to integrate," Ms. Nguyet confided.

Exciting martial arts performance
Another parent shared that this was the first time her son had truly enjoyed the Mid-Autumn Festival. Her son has been autistic since he was a child, and the family was worried that he might be in danger, so they did not dare let him go out into the community.
"After finding the right intervention method, my son has improved a lot, and can even confidently stand on stage to perform in front of many people," the proud parent said.
Master Thanh Loan, founder of the Aikido class - The World is Love, Head of the program's organizing committee, said that storm No. 3 left serious consequences for the northern provinces. Therefore, the organizing committee decided to organize this year's Mid-Autumn Festival differently.
"Instead of organizing outdoor activities and exciting lantern parades, we will organize them in a simpler, more cozy way. The children will participate in activities in the hall with quizzes and prizes, Aikido performances, etc.," said martial artist Thanh Loan.
In addition to organizing the Mid-Autumn Festival at the Children's House in District 3, the organizers also gave gifts to children at shelters in Ho Chi Minh City, more than 300 gifts.
Master Thanh Loan shared the reason why the program was organized simply, without the mid-autumn lantern procession like previous years.
In addition, children also received gifts such as moon cakes, lanterns, lucky red envelopes, and notebooks (for those studying culture).
With over 20 years of working with children with autism spectrum disorder, hyperactivity..., martial artist Thanh Loan understands that these children need special care and attention.
"There are people who are over 30 years old but still have the spirit of a 5-year-old. Teaching martial arts helps them improve their health, increase their mobility and control their actions. In addition, participating in drawing classes, music , group activities... also helps them improve their communication skills more" - martial arts master Thanh Loan added.
