Up to now, this can be considered the first university where Mr. Viet submitted his high school diploma as an admission requirement for university study.
On August 15, speaking to the press, a representative of Hanoi University said that currently, the school no longer keeps Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's enrollment records (including his high school diploma) because according to regulations, the enrollment records must be kept until the end of the course.
According to the representative, Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's time studying English at Hanoi University of Foreign Languages (now Hanoi University) was from August 1994 to December 2000, distance learning system.
University degree awarded in early 2001. Training period 6 years 4 months, within the time frame allowed for distance learning system.
Regarding how the school will handle Mr. Viet's university degree if the verification process shows that Mr. Viet does not have a high school diploma, a representative of Hanoi University said that after receiving official information from the authorities about Mr. Viet's high school diploma, the school will handle it according to the provisions of the law.
Specifically, according to Clause 3, Article 20 of Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT dated March 18, 2021 of the Ministry of Education and Training promulgating the Regulations on university training, it is stipulated that: "Students who use fake records, diplomas, and certificates as admission or graduation conditions will be forced to drop out of school; graduation diplomas, if already granted, will be revoked or canceled".
Previously, in June 2024, when information about Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's (Venerable Thich Chan Quang) doctorate degree issued by Hanoi Law University was announced, some people questioned Mr. Viet's high school diploma (in-service system), taken at Trung Nhat High School, Phu Nhuan District ( Ho Chi Minh City in 1989).
The verification of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's high school diploma was carried out by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training at the request of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs.
The review results show that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's name is not on the list of candidates and the score sheet of the 1989 high school supplementary graduation exam of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Viet's name is also not on the list of people awarded high school supplementary graduation certificates on June 6, 1989 in Ho Chi Minh City.
Regarding the suspicion of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's high school diploma, speaking with a reporter from the People's Representative Newspaper on August 13, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training, said that currently, public opinion is basing on the document of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City responding to the Government Committee for Religious Affairs to assume that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet does not have a high school diploma, or has not graduated from high school.
However, the key point that needs to be clarified is whether the information on the diploma verified by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is correct and the information on the diploma owned by Mr. Vuong Tan Viet or not.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, the Ministry of Education and Training has received information and a response from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, as well as checked the records in the archives of the Ministry of Education and Training more than a month ago, with initial information that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's name was not on the list of candidates for the exam and the list of high school diplomas awarded in 1989 by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
The Ministry of Education and Training has initially verified that the suspicions about the value of this degree are well-founded. However, the Ministry of Education and Training still needs to continue to coordinate with relevant agencies and security agencies to investigate and clarify other important information.
Specifically: verify whether it is Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's diploma with such information or not; if the above diploma information does not match the diploma information owned by Mr. Vuong Tan Viet, it is necessary to continue to clarify through other channels.
