After a prolonged heavy rain caused many areas in Thai Nguyen to be deeply flooded, the dormitory of the University of Education (Thai Nguyen University) was also surrounded by water, losing power and water.

On social media, some students expressed concern and anger, saying that the school had not allowed the relief team to enter to deliver supplies, forcing them to "fend for themselves in the flood".

The first floor of the dormitory of the University of Education (Thai Nguyen University) was devastated after the flood.

A student wrote: "The school is flooded like a sea, students are isolated, no electricity, no water, and have to suffer from food and drink. But the dormitory prohibits the relief team from entering, while still selling rice for 30,000 VND/meal."

Some students also complained that the dormitory management asked them to clean up as soon as the water receded on the morning of October 9, making them feel "forced".

These posts quickly went viral, attracting thousands of comments. Many expressed outrage, saying that if the incident was true, it was an inhumane act, especially in the context of Thai Nguyen people struggling with the flood.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tu Quang Tan, Vice Principal of the University of Education (Thai Nguyen University), affirmed: "There is no such thing as the dormitory blocking the relief team so that the canteen can sell rice. This is a misunderstanding."

On October 8 and 9, the school received 6 volunteer groups, distributing more than 2,000 meals, bread, instant noodles and drinks to each floor of the dormitory.

According to Mr. Tan, on the morning of October 8, when Thai Nguyen City was heavily flooded, a volunteer group came to distribute 100 meals but did not contact them in advance, while the area had no phone signal. The dormitory staff did not dare to accept them because they were following food safety regulations. "The student did not have full information so he misunderstood," said Mr. Tan.

After contacting, the school received and distributed hundreds of meals, cakes, and milk from many organizations, and also ordered free rice and water for students.

The image of ropes strung in the yard was said to "prevent rescuers from entering", but Mr. Tan explained that they were safety ropes for students traveling by raft and to warn of deep flooding.

Volunteer groups registered to support the school with 200 more meals along with cakes, sugar, milk, etc.

Regarding cleaning up after the flood, the school said that this is a general policy to avoid pollution and disease, and that it may be due to "rigid communication" that has caused students to misunderstand. The school's policy is to encourage students to clean up early to avoid mud from hardening, causing pollution and disease outbreaks. The school board still has people on duty 24/7 to support students during the flood.

Before that, when the water level rose, the school informed the students on the first floor to move to the second, third, fourth, and fifth floors to temporarily stay with their friends. After the water level receded, the entire first floor dormitory had about 12 rooms, but according to statistics, there were about 3 rooms that students did not stay to clean. The total building had 14 rooms that students did not stay to clean.

"The school encourages students to reflect and contribute ideas through official channels for timely handling and to ensure students' rights," Mr. Tan emphasized.
