Speaking with a reporter from Thanh Nien Newspaper on the morning of December 14th, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of the Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that Ho Chi Minh City has issued a document guiding schools on adjusting the Lunar New Year holiday for students from 9 days to 11 days, plus 2 additional days off before the holiday.
Accordingly, schools should proactively develop their academic year plans and create favorable conditions, resolving issues reasonably and appropriately for students who do not reside in the city during the Lunar New Year holiday of 2025.
According to Mr. Minh, in order to facilitate students' participation in a traditional national activity, the family's ancestral tomb visitation ceremony, and to maximize opportunities for students and their families to return home for the Lunar New Year, the Department of Education and Training has instructed schools that if there are difficulties with transportation or if students' hometowns are far away and they need a few extra days off, the principals should flexibly resolve the issue so that the school still ensures sufficient time for teaching, learning, testing, and evaluation, and completes the educational plan for the 2024-2025 school year as prescribed.
Previously, on December 12th, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a decision on adjusting the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for 2025. Accordingly, the City People's Committee approved the proposal of the Department of Education and Training to adjust the Lunar New Year holiday for preschool, primary, secondary, and continuing education in Ho Chi Minh City from January 23rd, 2025 (the 24th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Dragon) to February 2nd, 2025 (the 5th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Snake). Thus, students in Ho Chi Minh City will have a total of 11 days off for the 2025 Lunar New Year, an increase of 2 days compared to the previous plan.
