Specifically, a parent named HT said that his temporary residence is at Quarter 11, Ward 3, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City (currently Quarter 25, Rach Ong Ward, District 8), but when he received the results of the first-grade entrance exam, his child was assigned to Grade 1, Nguyen Truc Primary School, about 1.5 km away from home. Meanwhile, Au Duong Lan Primary School is close to his house, but his child cannot attend it.
He wondered: "Currently, I know that the admission process for the first grade is based on GIS maps. Measuring on the map, I can see which school is closer to the student. Why doesn't the system assign my child to a school near home for grade 1, but instead assigns my child to a school further away from home?"

On June 12, sharing more specifically with Thanh Nien Online reporter, Mr. HT, father of L.D.K, said that since 2024, his family has had a temporary residence registration certificate at the address in Quarter 11, Ward 3, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City. In mid-May 2025, Mr. HT submitted the above temporary residence certificate to the city's primary school admissions website. He entered the temporary residence address information for his child as "Quarter 11, Rach Ong Ward, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City".
Later, when he finished submitting the paperwork, he knew that the neighborhood where he registered for temporary residence had changed to neighborhood 25, Rach Ong ward, district 8, but at this time the primary school admission information portal had closed, so he could no longer change the neighborhood information.
Recently, when District 8 announced the results of the first round of primary school admissions, L.D.K was assigned to Nguyen Truc Primary School, about 1.5 km away from home - 5 times farther than the distance from home to Au Duong Lan Primary School. In addition, Mr. HT's nephew, who is also in first grade, has a permanent address in Ward 25, Rach Ong Ward, District 8 (the address where Mr. HT registered his temporary residence), and was assigned to study at Au Duong Lan Primary School.
"I work all day, so my grandparents are responsible for picking up and dropping off my children and grandchildren. So if both children go to the elementary school next door, Au Duong Lan Elementary School, a few hundred meters away from home, my grandparents can walk there to pick them up. If we have to go far from home, take a detour, and have complicated traffic to get to Nguyen Truc Elementary School, it would be too inconvenient," HT shared.
Currently, Mr. HT has submitted an application to change his wishes and provided accurate information about his current residence in the new neighborhood (neighborhood 25, Rach Ong ward) to the primary school admission system, waiting for the results of the second round of primary school admission.
On June 12, speaking with Thanh Nien Online reporters about the above case, the leader of the Department of Education and Training of District 8 said that during the process of zoning, some students may not be able to study near their homes due to the canal area, and the Department of Education and Training will make adjustments.
This morning, June 14, Mr. HT updated reporters that his child's first grade enrollment information had been adjusted by the Department of Education and Training of District 8. Child L.D.K has been reassigned to Au Duong Lan Primary School next to his house.
