Proud of Nhon Hung!

Located on the border with Cambodia, Nhon Hung ward (Tinh Bien town) is thriving in socio-economic development, with an increasingly modern urban landscape. Notably, Nhon Hung is also one of the "red addresses" of patriotism in the Bay Nui region, becoming a source of pride for those born and raised in this resilient land.

A glorious history

Turning the pages of the history of the Nhon Hung commune Party Committee, one can truly feel the heroic spirit of this land. Despite being in the remote southwestern border region of the country, Nhon Hung still bears a special mark associated with Mr. Nguyen Sinh Sac (the father of President Ho Chi Minh). During the period of 1920-1925, he visited Hoa Thanh Pagoda (also known as Cay Mit Pagoda) to obtain medicinal herbs and instill patriotism in the people. This served as a driving force, fostering a fervent patriotic tradition for generations of Nhon Hung residents.

Today, Nhon Hung boasts numerous historical and revolutionary relics and architectural works of art, such as Hoa Thanh Pagoda, the secret bunker of the Tinh Bien District Party Committee Office, and the Steel Outpost. Furthermore, every road and every garden here bears the footprints of generations of patriots who fought, sacrificed, and built this land. In July 1930, Nhon Hung was the birthplace of the Nhon Hung – Thoi Son combined Party cell, which led the people's struggle against the French. Names like Tam Vien, Nguyen Thi Doi, Sau Thau, and Bay Ro became the core force, leading the people's fight against the terror, raids, and exploitation of the French colonialists and their collaborators.

After a heroic and arduous struggle, the Party cell of Nhon Hung commune led the people to rise up and seize power on August 28, 1945, contributing to the completion of the great August 1945 Revolution nationwide. During the resistance war against French colonialism, the army and people of Nhon Hung also achieved many victories, notably: the Nhon Hung guerrilla battle in coordination with Tran Thang's troops to attack the enemy's troop transport from Chau Doc to Nha Bang (January 1947); the attack on Vinh Trung outpost (September 1949); and participation in the Long Chau Hau campaign of the Southern Command (September 1950)...

The roads of Nhon Hung today

During the anti-American war period, revolutionary forces in Nhon Hung led the people in carrying out the "People's Guerrilla Warfare Movement," causing many difficulties for the enemy. Notable examples include ambushing enemy forces attacking the Tay Hung base and Dai Mountain; and surrounding and calling on the enemy at Cay Trom outpost to surrender (in 1965). Numerous other battles, both large and small, affirmed the heroic fighting spirit of the revolutionary forces and the people of Nhon Hung commune, all striving towards the day of complete victory and national reunification.

During the war to defend the southwestern border, Nhon Hung was the only locality in Bay Nui district not occupied by the enemy. Through 72 battles, large and small, between 1975 and 1979, the "steel outpost" of Nhon Hung remained steadfast on the banks of the Vinh Te canal, forever becoming a glorious chapter in history for the younger generation to emulate. This is the driving force for the Party committee, government, and people of Nhon Hung today to continue striving to build their homeland.

Nhon Hung today

Now, Nhon Hung commune has become Nhon Hung ward. The smooth, paved roads are the result of the voluntary donation of land and trees by the people. The spacious schools and the improved lives of the people demonstrate the spirit of striving for progress by the Party Committee, government, various sectors, organizations, and local people throughout the years.

In 2024, Nhon Hung ward achieved 100% or more of the socio -economic development targets set in the resolution for 19 out of 22 indicators. Notably, the average per capita income reached 68.1 million VND/year; 100% of households used electricity and water meters; and 100% of students attended school at the appropriate age. Nhon Hung also achieved many positive results in various fields: agriculture, transportation and irrigation, social welfare, and policies for people with meritorious service… In building a ward that meets the standards of a civilized urban area, the locality achieved 4 out of 9 criteria and 28 out of 52 indicators.

The above results stem from the efforts to inherit and promote the heroic traditions of the local political system, aiming to transform this once bomb-ravaged land into a prosperous border ward, meeting the aspirations of all segments of the population. Building on these achievements, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Nhon Hung Ward will continue to promote socio-economic development, build the ward into a civilized urban area; effectively implement social welfare policies, improve the material and spiritual lives of the people; and maintain political stability, national defense and security, and social order. In particular, they will actively propagate and mobilize the people, creating deep consensus in implementing the policies of the Party, State, and locality.

Alongside the process of rebuilding their homeland, the people of Nhon Hung today do not forget the sacrifices of countless generations of their ancestors. On holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), especially on the anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country each year, the younger generation makes journeys to "red addresses" to revisit the Nhon Hung Steel Outpost, the Secret Tunnel of the Tinh Bien District Party Committee Office... to forever remember the heroic traditions of this land, and to continue striving to contribute to the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland today.

With a tradition of tenacious and indomitable struggle, Nhon Hung has three units awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, including: the commune's militia and guerrillas (December 20, 1979), the commune's People's Public Security Committee (August 13, 1980), and the people and armed forces of the commune (November 3, 2004). These are milestones in the development journey and a source of pride for the people in the construction and development of their homeland.
