79 years ago, on August 19, 1945, under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh , more than 20 million Vietnamese people rose up together to "use our own strength to liberate ourselves", seize power for the people, establish the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the first workers' and peasants' state in Southeast Asia, ending the feudal monarchy; ending more than 80 years of colonial and fascist slavery.
Our people rose from slavery to take control of their own destiny. Vietnam transformed from a semi-feudal colony into an independent, free and democratic country. The Communist Party of Vietnam became the ruling party.
The great victory of the August Revolution in 1945 was a brilliant milestone, a great turning point of the Vietnamese people, the crystallization of the tradition of ardent patriotism, the indomitable will, the refusal to lose the country, the refusal to be slaves, and the aspiration for freedom, peace , prosperity, and happiness of the entire nation that has been forged over thousands of years of history. The great achievements and invaluable historical lessons of the August Revolution became the luggage, the driving force urging our entire people and army under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh to carry out long and arduous resistance wars, defeat the colonial and imperialist invaders, and achieve glorious feats of arms, the culmination of which was the great victory of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 and the great victory in the spring of 1975, completely liberating the South, unifying the country, bringing our nation into the era of independence, unity, and the whole country moving towards socialism.
The spirit of the August Revolution continues to be the driving force encouraging our people to carry out the two strategic tasks of building and defending the Fatherland. After 38 years of renovation, the country has achieved victories of historical significance. People's lives have been constantly improved, socialist democracy has been promoted, social culture has developed, Vietnam has overcome the threshold of being a poor country, becoming a middle-income country, and our country's position has been increasingly enhanced in the international arena.
Promoting the spirit of the August Revolution, continuing to creatively apply and develop valuable lessons; the entire Party, people and army of Phu Yen strive, unite and be creative to successfully implement the socio-economic development goals and tasks in 2024; continue to effectively implement the resolutions and conclusions of the 4th Central Conference (term XI, XII, XIII) on strengthening the building and rectification of the Party and the political system in conjunction with promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle; mobilize all resources to build Phu Yen to develop rapidly and sustainably, successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress, continue to strive, promote all potential advantages, overcome difficulties and challenges, and create a new, more beautiful appearance for the province.
In recent years, the economic growth rate has always been maintained at a fairly good level. In 2023, the provincial budget revenue reached 4,200 billion VND, 140 times higher than in 1990. The economic growth rate reached 9.16%, for the first time Phu Yen was in the top 10 provinces and cities nationwide with the best growth rate. The material and spiritual life of the people has improved; the average income per capita in 2023 is estimated at 65.2 million VND; the poverty rate is now only 3.2%.
The province is also focusing on improving the capacity and fighting strength of the Party Committee, the role and management effectiveness of the government apparatus at all levels, focusing on administrative reform, taking care of personnel work; promoting patriotic emulation movements, creatively applying and implementing the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State in the specific conditions of the province.
The 79th anniversary of the August Revolution is an opportunity for us to review our history and be proud of the glorious tradition of our nation. At the same time, we also actively fight against false arguments that distort and deny the achievements of the August Revolution and the leadership role of the Party; thereby contributing to protecting the Party's ideological foundation and maintaining the stability and development of the country in the current new situation.
