The stage sparkled like ocean waves and pearls for "Ngoc"'s mini-show on the evening of December 21st in Ho Chi Minh City.
"Gems" endure pain to be polished.
Lam Bao Ngoc was born into a family with a tradition in the arts; both her parents were musicians – music teachers. Even she herself received training in pedagogy, not vocal music – the specialized field of someone who performs on stage.
Yet, when standing on the stage of the Sao Mai 2017 competition, Lam Bao Ngoc won the runner-up prize in the light music style. However, the "glory" from a competition as highly professional as Sao Mai doesn't seem to have helped Lam Bao Ngoc much in her career, especially when the music market already has so many popular televised competitions.

Two years later, Lam Bao Ngoc entered The Voice Vietnam. Once again winning the runner-up title, it seemed that Lam Bao Ngoc would quickly rise to prominence with the love of the audience, but no, her career path encountered obstacles.
Like many young people in modern society, Lam Bao Ngoc struggled with severe depression as she faced life's challenges. Ngoc shared that she suffered from overthinking, coupled with the sensitivity of an artist, which left her struggling both in life and her career. Failures in relationships, a changed outlook on life, and feeling lost in the times... all significantly impacted her singing career. Lam Bao Ngoc felt she had lost her enthusiasm, even refusing invitations to perform because she didn't want the audience to witness her disillusionment with the stage. Lam Bao Ngoc disappeared as if she had never existed for the past four years.
The "gem" named HippoHappy
After a long period of treatment, Lam Bao Ngoc appeared in her new persona, HippoHappy, on Masked Singer Season 2. Once again, from her very first song – "What Remains of the Past? " – Lam Bao Ngoc stunned the panel of judges and television viewers alike. With a vocal range considered to be that of a diva, and a high-pitched vocal technique using a flute reminiscent of Mariah Carey, HippoHappy led many to speculate that it was Lam Bao Ngoc – a singer with a petite figure but an incredibly powerful voice.
