Bac Ha District (old) is also known as the “white plateau”, famous for its enchanting white plum blossoms in spring. Not only that, there are many beautiful landscapes that the people themselves are contributing to increasing the value. Hong Mi Folk Arts Club (new Bac Ha Commune) with 20 enthusiastic young members, under the guidance of experienced H'Mong artisans, has been welcomed by many visitors from all over the country. Since 2019, the club has performed hundreds of times for tourists as well as local conferences and seminars.
Mr. Giang A Hai, Head of Hong Mi Folk Arts Club, shared: The club members are young people who have not yet attended professional classes, but the members always practice actively to have special performances to serve tourists. The number of visitors to this mountainous region is increasing and we have more opportunities to perform at the Bac Ha night market stage.
The Tay ethnic people in Na Lo, Ta Chai, Na Kim villages (Bac Ha commune) have had the conditions to develop homestay tourism very early. For decades, xoe dance has become a unique cultural and spiritual beauty of the people. Every time visitors come to visit, they can immerse themselves in the passionate xoe dance, experience the daily life of agricultural residents, or learn and explore.
The Tay people in Bac Ha have 12 xoe melodies, including six melodies with drum and gong accompaniment and six melodies with trumpet and drum accompaniment. Over time, the Tay people here continue to create new melodies, such as xoe weaving, tea picking, bean planting, wine offering... The creation of new melodies contributes to the increasingly rich treasure of xoe art.
Then singing has long been the "divine singing" of the Tay people, and many communes in Lao Cai province today still preserve many beautiful singing melodies. Artisan Hoang Sin Phin, Hoa Mac commune, now Van Ban commune, said that Then singing festivals are often held on occasions of praying for wealth and fortune. There, groups and clubs wear traditional costumes, join in the dances, and have accompanying music . Meritorious artist Lam Quang Cua, who has spent many years researching Then of the Tay people and teaching many generations of young people, confided: Lao Cai has unique Then xoe melodies, unlike other places. When entering the xoe performance, the melody and sound of the Tinh lute are decisive and strong, the dances are graceful and have extremely diverse rhythms, creating a distinct appeal.
In recent years, Lao Cai province has paid attention to supporting and expanding mass art troupes and clubs in villages and hamlets. In particular, Resolution No. 06/2021/NQ-HDND, dated April 9, 2021 of the Provincial People's Council has promoted the development of tourism products, while contributing to preserving the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in the area. Many supported clubs and troupes have actively learned, practiced, exchanged, and even toured in many other provinces and cities across the country.
Artisan Ban A Ton (new Bao Nhai commune) shared: Thanks to the timely encouragement and support of the authorities, those who have contributed to preserving and developing the traditional arts of the villages and hamlets have been recognized. That is what helps cultural workers to be more motivated in teaching and preserving the unique cultural features of the province.
