Having an unhappy childhood, Nguyen Quang Hieu (27 years old) wants to use his love to help life and people, especially disadvantaged children who are in the same situation as he was when he was a child.

Since high school, Hieu has been involved in volunteer work for many years. He founded the Sen Viet Volunteer Club with like-minded young people to travel to many remote areas to help difficult cases.

Find the difficult area

One weekend afternoon, the program "Giving books and receiving trees" took place in Da Nang , attracting a large number of young people to participate. Most of them were students studying at schools in Da Nang. They brought their own books to contribute to the program with the desire to help and spread the love of knowledge to disadvantaged children in remote areas. Bringing books suitable for children to give, each person received a tree with a message to take good care of it to make life greener. Nguyen Quang Hieu was busy from the preparation stage, running from one end to another to receive books to introducing the meaning of this activity to the young people. The program "Giving books and receiving trees" is the first phase of the "Highland Books" project that Hieu wants to carry out. The books received will go to children in the highlands, where children still lack access to books. And he was very happy that the number of books received was quite large. This is also a continuation of the programs that Hieu and his friends have done since the club was founded in 2017. There were times when he lacked funds, lacked workers, and was not able to carry out the activities he had planned before, but he was still determined to pursue them to the end. Every trip back to the highlands, he gave away gifts to share love. Not only for children, Hieu tried to connect with sponsors to organize the "Sharing Love" program to support many families in especially difficult circumstances in mountainous districts. To have money to do this, Sen Viet often sells candy and snacks to raise funds. Each time, they collected a few million VND, Hieu and his members prepared gifts, sometimes a 0 VND library, sometimes they donated solar-powered electrical equipment to poor households, or supported school repairs and playgrounds for orphans and disadvantaged children.
I want to do sustainable volunteer work, to be able to share even a small part with many children who have suffered the same pain as me.
NGUYEN QUANG HIEU

Pain is motivation

Hieu was abandoned by his parents when he was only 7 months old. Out of pity for his nephew, an aunt took Hieu in to raise him, but life was so difficult that when Hieu was in 4th grade, she had to send him to an orphanage. Hieu grew up with friends like him at Hoa Mai Orphanage (Da Nang) from that day on. Lacking family affection from a young age sometimes made him feel very self-conscious about his background. But because he had lived and gotten used to that pain, Hieu realized that he needed to do something to help others, so he started his volunteer journey. Most of the club's activities prioritize orphans. Every time like that, Hieu felt more motivated when he felt that the children's misfortune was somewhat relieved. In the early days of the club's establishment, not many people believed in him, and there was not much support, so Hieu only dared to do a few small activities. Hieu and his brothers kept working quietly and persistently, and gradually more people knew about them. Seeing the club's many practical activities, directly reaching people in remote areas, people whispered to each other, so more and more benefactors supported. Ms. Le Thu (28 years old) - one of the people who regularly supported money and gifts for Hieu's charity trips - shared: "It is Hieu's honesty, dedication and hard work that makes me feel secure in choosing him and the club as a bridge to provide support to disadvantaged children". For Hieu, after many years of attachment, charity activities have become a part of his flesh and blood. "The smiles of each child in schools for disabled children, shelters or children in mountainous areas where we go are already priceless gifts. That motivates us to continue our chosen journey" - Hieu expressed.
At the National Volunteer Day 2023 held in Ho Chi Minh City recently, Nguyen Quang Hieu was awarded a certificate of merit by the Vietnam Youth Union for his outstanding achievements in volunteer activities for the community with his tireless efforts in the past time.
