Mastering advanced techniques step by step.

Through connections with central-level hospitals to develop new and specialized techniques, several provincial and regional hospitals in the province have recently gained access to advanced techniques right in their localities. As a result, patients receive timely treatment and save costs; healthcare units are increasingly confident and proactive in mastering specialized techniques.

Dr. Nguyen Hung Dao, Director of the Provincial General Hospital, said: "Previously, techniques that could only be performed at central-level hospitals have now become routine procedures at our hospital. One of the outstanding techniques is coronary artery stenting or percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Previously, patients treated for kidney stones often had to undergo open surgery, which was very painful, had slow recovery times, and was expensive. However, with hands-on training from doctors at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, this technique is now being implemented proficiently at our hospital."

Similarly, other techniques such as endoscopic treatment of inguinal hernia, treatment of hemorrhoids with radiofrequency waves, laser treatment, etc., have also been mastered by some provincial and regional hospitals right in their localities, gradually replacing traditional methods that cause prolonged pain and are still covered by health insurance, close to home, and convenient for care.

Mr. Hoang Van An, 72 years old, from Ha Giang 1 ward, said: “I have received treatment many times at Ha Giang General Hospital and have had surgery for kidney stones, bladder stones, prostate stones, and now embolization to treat liver cancer. Thanks to the new technique, I don't have to travel far, it saves money, and my family can easily take care of me.”

In order to meet the healthcare needs of the people, over the years, the Provincial People's Committee has signed cooperation agreements, provided professional support, transferred technology, and offered training with several central-level hospitals such as Bach Mai Hospital, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, and the Central Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital.

With the professional support of central-level hospitals and becoming a satellite hospital of hospitals such as Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, Hanoi Oncology Hospital, Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi Heart Hospital, etc., Ha Giang General Hospital has now transferred and developed many new techniques such as: arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery; knee and hip replacement surgery; spinal cementation, thoracic-lumbar spine fixation surgery; cerebral thrombectomy; embolization in trauma, tumors, and cancer; coronary angiography; coronary stent placement; pacemaker implantation; ECMO... In addition, Ha Giang General Hospital has successfully completed the rotation of staff to lower-level hospitals according to Project 1816.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Manh Khanh, Deputy Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, emphasized: “Since 2010, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital has implemented technology transfer projects for several medical units in Tuyen Quang province. Among them, the Provincial General Hospital and Ha Giang General Hospital are some of the units that have benefited from the project. We not only transfer technology but also directly survey, train, and coordinate the implementation of difficult cases with local doctors. We only officially hand over the technology when provincial-level doctors are qualified to perform the procedures independently. In addition to transferring technology to provincial-level medical units, we have also surveyed and assessed the existing facilities, equipment, and human resources, as well as the capacity and ability to receive the technology package at the Son Duong and Na Hang Regional Medical Centers that need to receive the technology transfer.”

With the training and technology transfer support from central-level hospitals, the professional skills, diagnostic and treatment capabilities of medical staff have been improved, thereby enhancing the quality of medical care for the people in the area and significantly reducing overcrowding at central-level hospitals.
