The thousand-petal lotus flower was once very expensive.

At that time, thousand-petal lotus flowers were expensive, up to nearly half a million VND/bunch (10 flowers), and they were not even available to buy.

"I remember it was the lotus season of 2019. Even though I was willing to spend 200,000 VND just to buy 5 thousand-petal lotus flowers, I still had to search everywhere. No matter how many customers asked, there were none to sell, so I had to wait," Ms. Nguyen Thanh Loan - owner of an online flower shop in Hanoi recalled.

But now, at the beginning of the season, the thousand-petal lotus flower costs only about 100,000 - 120,000 VND/bunch and then drops to 60,000 - 80,000 VND/bunch depending on the type. "This year, the supply is also abundant, there are enough flowers to sell every day," said Ms. Loan.

On the online market, thousand-petal lotus flowers are sold for 5,000 - 6,500 VND/flower.

According to Ms. Loan, the price of the thousand-petal lotus has dropped dramatically because the fever has passed, it is no longer so new that buyers are no longer as "crazy" as before. This helps the supply of goods to be abundant and diverse, so the flowers are no longer scarce. Moreover, there are many new lotus species so consumers can choose freely.

“This year, people like to play with pink-edged lotus and all kinds of mutated lotus. That's why the thousand-petal lotus is less popular than before. In addition, other types of lotus such as royal lotus, Quan Am lotus, and Anh Duong lotus also have common prices around 50,000 VND and are almost always available," said Ms. Loan.

This type of flower is also quite diverse in color.

According to many traders and lotus growers, this year farmers expanded the area of growing thousand-petal lotus, seeing that this flower is popular, this caused the price of the flower to plummet.

Thousand-petal lotus flowers are no longer as "hot" as before.

The thousand-petal lotus appeared on the market from around 2019. This is a foreign lotus variety, also known as Super Lotus. The giant pink-red or white lotus flower usually has from 800 to 1,000 petals (different from the 10 - 30 petals of a normal lotus flower). On the outside, the petals are large, on the inside the petals gradually become smaller and densely packed. The thousand-petal lotus flower is larger and lasts longer than other lotus species.
