This solution not only helps to solve immediate difficulties for farmers, but also ensures stable output, maintains confidence and production motivation during challenging times.
Currently, Vietnam's rice export activities are facing many challenges as the Philippine market - a country that accounts for nearly 79% of the country's total rice exports - has just decided to temporarily suspend imports for 60 days starting September 1. This move makes the rice industry's output even more uncertain, requiring businesses to quickly seek and expand alternative markets to minimize risks and maintain export pace.
Vinh Long province is in the main rice production season, stretching across many large fields.
Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Vinh Long province said that the department is urgently issuing an official dispatch to all rice trading and exporting enterprises in the area, requesting them to proactively promote the purchase and storage of rice, promptly responding to market fluctuations in the current period.
The head of the industry and trade sector said that traders must not be hasty or subjective, but must be alert and cautious in the face of all market developments. Rice exporting enterprises must proactively develop flexible production and business plans, and promptly expand to new potential markets to disperse risks and improve resilience to increasingly complex international trade fluctuations.
“Enterprises need to be proactive and active in purchasing and temporarily storing rice for farmers, while committing to ensuring reasonable purchasing prices so that rice growers can feel secure in production. This not only contributes to stabilizing product output, but also demonstrates the responsibility of accompanying and providing maximum support of enterprises in sharing difficulties with farmers, gradually building trust, and maintaining sustainable development of the rice industry in a context of many fluctuations,” Mr. Tuan emphasized.
Rice exporting enterprises in Vinh Long are required to play the role of “midwife”, proactively purchasing and temporarily storing rice to share the burden with farmers.
The Department of Industry and Trade requires that rice export businesses in the area strictly comply with the provisions of Decree 107 of the Government , along with the amended and supplemented contents of Decree 01 and related legal documents. During the implementation process, if any problems arise, businesses can directly contact the Trade Management Department - Department of Industry and Trade of Vinh Long province via phone number 02703.823.207 for timely guidance and resolution.
Currently, the province has only two enterprises participating in rice export, including Phuoc Thanh IV Production and Trade Company Limited (Long Ho Commune) and Tra Vinh Food Company (Tra Vinh Ward). These are the units that are clearly affected by the Philippines' decision to temporarily suspend rice imports, requiring quick adaptation solutions to maintain production and business activities, while ensuring the rights of farmers.
