According to VTC News, after more than 2 years of construction, the Phuoc An Bridge project across Thi Vai River connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai has completed many important items. Currently, the project is entering the stage of cable-stayed cable tensioning at the two main towers, which owns the largest span in Southeast Asia.
Construction started in June 2023, Phuoc An Bridge has a total investment of nearly 4,900 billion VND, invested by the Regional Traffic Project Management Board and the Agricultural Sector of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province (PV - formerly known as the Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port Traffic Project Management Board). The project is more than 4.7km long, including 5 construction packages, of which the main bridge is 3.5km long, the approach road on the route is 247m long, the connecting road to Phuoc An Port is about 617m long and the intersection with the port entrance is completed.
At the scene, on the Ho Chi Minh City side, the first pillars connecting to the Cai Mep - Thi Vai inter-port road have been completed and installed with beams, extending out to the Thi Vai River. The two main span pillars have also been basically completed, standing tall in the middle of the river, ready for the closing phase.
At the construction site, hundreds of workers and many equipment and machines are urgently constructing and installing the first cable-stayed bundles and completing the remaining bridge base and pier items.
Phuoc An Bridge is designed in a modern style with a main bridge 27m wide, approach bridge 23.5m wide, including 6 lanes (4 motor lanes, 2 mixed lanes), designed speed 70 km/h. The project meets the clearance size for 30,000 DWT ships, width 135m, clearance 55m, meeting international standards for navigation.
According to the Regional Traffic and Agricultural Project Management Board of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province (under the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City), package 38 for construction of the approach bridge from the beginning of the route to pillars T36 and T37 in Ho Chi Minh City has reached about 64% of the construction volume.
Package No. 39, construction of the main bridge from pier T37 to pier T40, including the waterway traffic regulation item, has completed nearly 62% of the construction value.
On the contrary, the two packages of the project in Dong Nai province are behind schedule and facing difficulties in site clearance. The two construction packages here include package 40 (approach bridge from pier T40-T41 to pier T62) and package 41 (approach bridge from pier T62 to pier M75 and access road).
Package No. 40, worth over VND526 billion, was constructed by VNCN E&C Construction and Engineering Investment Joint Stock Company in 1,077 days, and has only reached about 3.5% of the volume. Meanwhile, Package No. 41, worth nearly VND465 billion, was undertaken by a consortium of four enterprises in 1,080 days, and has only reached 0.45% of the progress.
Phuoc An Bridge is identified as a key traffic infrastructure project, playing a role in directly connecting Cai Mep - Thi Vai port area with Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, creating a vital traffic axis between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai.
When completed, the project will help reduce the load on National Highway 51, while completing the national logistics network, creating momentum for socio-economic development for the entire region.
