According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Vietnam is one of the countries with the fastest aging population in the world . People aged 60 and over accounted for nearly 12% of the total population in 2019 and by 2050, this number will increase to more than 25%. By 2036, Vietnam will enter the aging population period, transitioning from an "aging" society to an "old" society. Some developed localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Da Nang have an average life expectancy of over 76.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trung Anh - Director of the Central Geriatric Hospital - said that it is estimated that by 2036, Vietnam will enter the aging population phase with the elderly accounting for over 20% of the total population. MSc. Mai Trung Son said that the causes of aging in Vietnam are similar to those in the world, which are increased life expectancy and decreased birth rate. The Ministry of Health proposed to develop solutions to adapt to the aging process of the population, the aging population; meet the basic needs of elderly care and some basic needs of the elderly that are increasing rapidly. The Ministry of Health proposed to develop procedures, professional and technical guidelines on health care, long-term care for the elderly. Develop health care service packages for the elderly...
