Every year, the Provincial Youth Union directs the Youth Union branches to carry out activities associated with environmental events, such as: For a green Vietnam; Earth Hour; World Environment Day; Biodiversity Day; National Week of Clean Water and Environmental Sanitation; Campaign to Make the World Cleaner; Green Sunday... Strengthen communication on awareness of environmental sanitation, protection of urban landscapes in residential areas to children and youth union members through branch activities, summer activities and propaganda on social networking sites of the Youth Union branches. Thereby, raising awareness of environmental protection for Youth Union members and the community.
Mr. Lo Manh Cuong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Head of the Youth Union and Children's Affairs Department, said: The campaign to clean up and beautify the environment has become a regular activity of the Youth Union on weekends and during the Youth Month and the summer volunteer campaign. Every year, 100% of the Youth Unions have organized "Volunteer Saturday" and "Green Sunday". Since the beginning of the year, the whole province has maintained regular activities of 128 volunteer teams participating in protecting the environment, landscape, and maintaining urban order, with nearly 1,300 volunteers participating.
At the same time, 80 propaganda activities on building a civilized urban lifestyle were organized, with nearly 2,500 young people participating. 252 streets were repaired and maintained, 12 new civilized streets were built with the criteria of "Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful - Civilized - Safe". 96 "Green Sundays" were organized; 5 training courses on environmental protection and climate change response; 7 projects were deployed to respond to climate change; nearly 44,000 new trees were planted, worth more than 1.3 billion VND... The activities attracted more than 28,000 young people to participate.
Mr. Dang Van Phuc, Secretary of the Van Ho Commune Youth Union, said: In the past 6 months, the Commune Youth Union directed the grassroots youth unions to organize the 2nd "Green Sunday" in response to World Environment Day (June 5). The launching ceremony included many meaningful activities, such as: Cleaning, collecting plastic waste, clearing bushes, dredging canals; planting 250 trees on internal roads, village cultural houses; repairing internal roads..., attracting over 700 youth union members to participate.
The youth self-managed roads in Pung Banh commune are always kept clean and beautiful by the grassroots youth unions. Ms. Lo Thi Ha, Secretary of the Youth Union of Pung Banh commune, said: Currently, the grassroots youth unions maintain 20 youth self-managed roads. Since the beginning of the year, the commune Youth Union has mobilized more than 1,000 youth union members to clean 15 km of rural roads and village cultural houses; dug 20 mini garbage pits; installed solar energy bulbs in Pha Thong, Pum Cuom, and Dom villages. In addition, the commune has coordinated with mass organizations to promote people's participation in environmental protection. Thanks to that, many households have proactively classified and disposed of garbage in the right place; planted flowers and trees in front of their houses, creating a clean and beautiful landscape.
Through practical works and activities, Son La youth actively contribute to environmental protection, climate change response, join hands to implement environmental criteria in new rural construction..., contributing to building the locality to be increasingly bright, green, clean and beautiful.
