It took only 10 minutes (from the 7th to the 17th minute) for coach Mai Duc Chung's students to decide the game with 4 consecutive goals. Duong Thi Van, Ngan Thi Van Su, Pham Hai Yen and Nguyen Thi Van scored in turn, leaving the Cambodian women's team unable to react.
In the second half, the one-sided game continued to be maintained by the Vietnamese women's team. Despite the fact that the Cambodian players put a large number of players in defense, the away team's net still shook twice more. Ngan Thi Van Su completed her double in the 51st minute before Thai Thi Thao scored the final goal to make it 6-0 in the 61st minute.
The big win helped the Vietnamese women's team rank second in Group A after the first round of matches. This is also a favorable start for Huynh Nhu and her teammates to aim for the goal of regaining the Southeast Asian championship.
In the early match of the same group, the Thai women's team showed their strength when they defeated the Indonesian women's team with a score of 7-0 and ranked first in the group. The competition for the top spot in Group A promises to be very exciting when both Thailand and Vietnam won big in their opening matches.
In the next match, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will face Indonesia on August 8. With their current form, the Vietnamese women's team is expected to continue to have another big win to maintain their advantage in the race to the semi-finals.
