Soc Trang petanque youth team maintains achievements

Contribute "gold" to the group

As a large-scale playground, the 2024 National Youth Petanque Championship gathers nearly 200 athletes from 16 provinces, cities and sectors across the country. Athletes compete in 2 age groups, competing for 14 sets of medals. Of which, the host petanque team Soc Trang has 17 athletes participating in the competition, with the target of at least 1 gold medal.

Coach Lieu Thai Son - Soc Trang Province's Petanque Youth Team said: "Playing at home, the coaching staff created good conditions for the players to compete and learn from each other's experiences. There are players who are competing in a big arena for the first time and some who have participated in regional and national tournaments many times. Through this season, some players have shown their talent by executing accurate marble shots from the qualifying round to the end. The good news is that when the National Petanque Championship for Youth and Teenagers ended, the Soc Trang Petanque Youth Team reaped "sweet fruit" with 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, ranking 3rd out of 16 teams. This is a result of the athletes' efforts and determination to compete, helping the Soc Trang Youth Team maintain its achievements in the national arena."

As one of the billiard players with her teammates who competed excellently in this year's tournament, Ong Thi Ngoc Giau won 2 gold medals (women's doubles and women's trio) in the 17-20 age group. She excitedly said: "In the 2 final matches for "gold", the host team Soc Trang met the team from Bac Lieu province. With a lot of effort, the Soc Trang team won. With achievements like this, my teammates and I feel very happy."

Maintain and expect high performance

Also at this playground last year, the Soc Trang youth team won 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 4 bronze medals, ranking third overall. The female athletes who contributed to the home team include female billiard players Son Ly Na Da, Son Thi Thu Thuy, Vo Tieu Phung and Ong Thi Ngoc Giau...

Coach Lieu Thai Son added: “Every time we participate in a tournament, we set the highest goal of “gold”. However, during the competition, in addition to the professional level of the athletes, there are also technical and psychological risks in the competition. Therefore, when the matches take place, the coaching staff always creates a comfortable mentality for the players to compete in the best way possible. With the achievements in the seasons, we are very happy. Hopefully, Soc Trang's billiard players will continue to promote their talent and professional techniques in the competitions in the following seasons to contribute to the achievements of the provincial sports delegation”.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Lam Thanh Dung, organizing a national tournament is an important sporting event to continue promoting the implementation of the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho". At the same time, it is an opportunity for athletes to exchange, learn, and accumulate competition experience, and is the basis for selecting talented faces to supplement the national youth team to participate in regional and international competitions.

Success after success, but the Soc Trang province petanque youth team is not complacent, but continues to practice hard. Every day, at the training ground, the youth team members still persevere, diligently practicing the training program set by the coach so that when there is a tournament, they are ready to participate with the goal of achieving high achievements.
